Pope John Paul II had this beautiful idea that solidarity is not a mere feeling of compassion or distress at the misfortunes of other people, rather, it is a strong determination to commit oneself for the common good, that is, of each individual, being responsible for all. In a way, to truly live in solidarity means weighing our differences to something greater – our humanity. To see a person, not an object, not to be used to a certain goal. However, there is no solidarity when we only see humanity, not differences. Part of embracing one’s humanity is to embrace its meaningful forms of expression particularly through religious practices.
Hence, the activities these past few weeks hope to develop the seed of interest in religious practices and highlight one’s important responsibility towards his religious affiliation. For it is through differences that we come to have a meaningful encounter with others.
We thank the teachers of the Religious Study Department: Mr. Basir Haron, Mr. Wilfredo Juntilla Jr., Mr. Joshua Gellado, and Mr. Didagen Saidali, for making this activity possible.
We also extend our gratitude to the evaluators: Mr. Mukisk Matthew Veniegas, NDU-SHS HUMSS Coordinator for the Christian Activities, and Mr. Haron Mohammad, NDU-ETD Islamic Coordinator for the Muslim Activities. The RS teachers gave their affirmation to the results of the activities.
We thank all those who partake in this event and congratulations to all the winners.
