Devotional: Following Jesus Wholeheartedly
Passage: Gospel of John 1:35–51
Passage

In this passage, John the Baptist points two of his disciples to Jesus, calling Him the “Lamb of God.” One of them, Andrew, immediately follows Jesus and then invites his brother Simon Peter to come and meet Him. Jesus later calls Philip, who then brings Nathanael to Jesus. Though Nathanael initially doubts, Jesus reveals His knowledge of him, leading Nathanael to declare that Jesus is the Son of God and King of Israel.

Audience/Characters
1. John the Baptist – faithfully points people to Jesus instead of to himself.
2. Andrew – responds quickly to Jesus and invites others to know Him.
3. Simon Peter – receives a new identity from Jesus.
Philip – obeys Jesus’ call and shares Him with a friend.
4. Nathanael – begins with doubt but ends in faith after encountering Jesus.
5. Jesus – the Lamb of God, the Son of God, and the One who truly knows every person.

Principles/Lessons
1. True disciples point others to Jesus.

John the Baptist did not seek attention for himself. Instead, he directed people toward Christ. As believers, our lives should lead others closer to Jesus through our words, actions, and testimony.

2. Encountering Jesus changes lives.

Andrew followed Jesus after hearing His invitation. Peter received a new name and purpose. A genuine relationship with Christ transforms identity, direction, and priorities.

3. Sharing Jesus can begin with one invitation.

Andrew invited Peter. Philip invited Nathanael. Simple invitations can become life-changing moments for others. God can use ordinary conversations to draw people to Him.

4. Jesus knows us completely.

Before Nathanael even spoke to Jesus, Jesus already knew him. This reminds us that God sees our hearts, doubts, struggles, and potential. Nothing about us is hidden from Him.

5. Doubt can lead to deeper faith when we seek Jesus honestly.

Nathanael questioned whether anything good could come from Nazareth, but he was willing to come and see. Honest seekers who encounter Christ often discover greater truth than they expected.

Diagnostic Questions
*Am I pointing people toward Jesus or drawing attention to myself?
*How has following Jesus changed my life and identity?
*Who can I invite or encourage to know Christ more deeply?
*Do I believe that Jesus truly knows and understands me?
*Are my doubts pushing me away from God, or leading me to seek Him more sincerely?

Reflection Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for calling ordinary people to follow You. Help me to respond with obedience, faith, and humility. Teach me to point others toward You and to trust that You know me completely. Strengthen my faith even in moments of doubt, and use my life to bring others closer to You. Amen.

Devotional: Behold the Lamb of God
Passage

John 1:29–34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” He testified that Jesus is the Son of God, the One sent by God, and the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

Audience/Character
*John the Baptist – A humble witness preparing the way for Jesus. His role was not to gain attention for himself, but to point people to Christ.

*Jesus – The Lamb of God, sent to remove the sins of the world and bring salvation.

*The People Listening – Those searching for hope, truth, and the promised Messiah.

Principles/Lessons
1. Jesus is the Lamb of God

Jesus came with a mission—to take away sin. Unlike temporary sacrifices in the Old Testament, Jesus became the perfect and final sacrifice for humanity.

2. Our Purpose is to Point Others to Christ

John the Baptist understood that life was not about promoting himself. His mission was to direct people toward Jesus. As believers, we are also called to reflect Christ in our words, actions, and lifestyle.

3. God Reveals Jesus to Those Who Seek Him

John recognized Jesus because he listened to God and obeyed His direction. Spiritual sensitivity grows when we remain close to God.

4. Jesus Changes Lives Through the Holy Spirit

Jesus does not only forgive sin—He transforms hearts. Through the Holy Spirit, believers are renewed, empowered, and guided daily.

Diagnostic Question
*Am I truly looking to Jesus as the Savior of my life, or am I relying on other things to satisfy and save me?

*Does my life point people toward Christ or toward myself?

*Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to transform my heart daily?
Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Help me live a life that points others to You. Teach me to walk in humility, obedience, and dependence on the Holy Spirit every day. Amen.

Devotional: A Voice Pointing to Christ

Passage: John 1:19–28

Audience/Characters:
In this passage, the religious leaders sent priests and Levites to question John the Baptist about who he was. They wanted to know if he was the Messiah, Elijah, or a prophet. John clearly denied all of these titles and described himself simply as “a voice of one calling in the wilderness.” His mission was not to bring attention to himself but to prepare people for the coming of Jesus Christ.

Principles/Lessons
1. Humility honors God. John did not seek fame or recognition. Even though many people followed him, he pointed everyone to Jesus instead of himself.

2. Our purpose is to point others to Christ. Like John, believers are called to reflect Jesus in their words, actions, and lifestyle.

3. Jesus is greater than anyone else. John said he was not worthy to untie Jesus’ sandals, showing deep reverence and understanding of Christ’s greatness.

4. Identity is found in God’s calling. John knew exactly who he was and what God called him to do. He stayed faithful to his mission.

Diagnostic Question:
Am I living in a way that points people toward Jesus, or am I seeking attention and recognition for myself?
