Luke 5:1-11
While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God,
he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
He saw two boats there alongside the lake;
the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.
Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon,
he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore.
Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.
After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,
"Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch."
Simon said in reply,
"Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing,
but at your command I will lower the nets."
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish
and their nets were tearing.
They signaled to their partners in the other boat
to come to help them.
They came and filled both boats
so that the boats were in danger of sinking.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said,
"Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."
For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him
and all those with him,
and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee,
who were partners of Simon.
Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid;
from now on you will be catching men."
When they brought their boats to the shore,
they left everything and followed him.

Luke 4:38-44
After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon.
Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever,
and they interceded with him about her.
He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up immediately and waited on them.

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases
brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.”
But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak
because they knew that he was the Christ.

At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place.
The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him,
they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, “To the other towns also
I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,
because for this purpose I have been sent.”
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

A Biblical Prayer When You Feel Alone

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
when I feel alone, forgotten, or unseen, remind me that I am never truly alone, because You are with me.
Your Word says, “I will never forsake you.” — Hebrews 13:5

Help me trust Your presence even when I cannot feel it.
When my heart is heavy, comfort me.
When I have no one to talk to, let me speak to You.
When I feel abandoned, hold me close.
When darkness surrounds me, be my light.

Lord, give me the strength to face this day, the courage to keep going, and the faith to believe that better days are in Your hands.

As David prayed, “Do not hide your face from me; do not repel your servant in anger. You are my help.” — Psalm 27:9

Stay with me, Lord.
Fill the emptiness in my heart with Your peace,
and remind me that Your love never leaves me.
Amen.

“Be quiet! Come out of him!” — Luke 4:35

Jesus teaches not only with words, but with authority and power. Even the unclean spirits recognize who He is—the Holy One of God. His presence brings freedom where there is fear, confusion, and darkness.
May we always trust in the authority of Christ and allow His Word to bring peace into our hearts.

“For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” — Luke 4:36

Luke 4:16-30
Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll,
he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
And all spoke highly of him
and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.
They also asked, “Is this not the son of Joseph?”
He said to them, “Surely you will quote me this proverb,
‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say, ‘Do here in your native place
the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.’”
And he said,
“Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you,
there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah
when the sky was closed for three and a half years
and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent,
but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel
during the time of Elisha the prophet;
yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”
When the people in the synagogue heard this,
they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town,
and led him to the brow of the hill
on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away

Jesus reminds us that following Him is not always the easy path. It requires us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and faithfully follow where He leads.

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” — Matthew 16:24

May we choose God’s will over our own, and find true life by faithfully following Christ. 🙏

☀️ Afternoon Prayer

Heavenly Father,
In the quiet of this afternoon, I turn my heart toward You.
Thank You for carrying me through this day and for every blessing You have given me.

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad.”
— Psalm 118:24

Lord, guide my thoughts, words, and actions for the rest of this day. Give me wisdom to make what is right, strength when I am weary, and peace when I am troubled.

“Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7

Keep my family and loved ones under Your protection. Help me to be patient, kind, forgiving, and faithful in everything I do.

“May the Lord bless you and protect you!
May the Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!”
— Numbers 6:24–25

May Your presence remain with me throughout this afternoon and into the evening. Let my life glorify You and let everything I do be guided by Your love.

When Truth Comes at a Price
John the Baptist chose to speak the truth, even when it meant imprisonment and ultimately giving his life. Herod, trapped by pride and fear of others, made a tragic choice.

This Gospel reminds us that following God is not always easy, but faithfulness is always worth it.

May we have the courage to stand for truth, even when it costs us.

Lord, strengthen our faith and give us courage to remain faithful to You. Amen

🙏 Prayer for the Sick

Heavenly Father,
I come before You with faith and humility, asking for Your healing grace upon those who are sick and suffering.

Your Word says, “I am the LORD who heals you.” — Exodus 15:26
Lord Jesus, You healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, made the lame walk, and brought hope to those who were suffering. We ask You now to touch the sick with Your healing hands.

“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him.” — James 5:14

Give strength to the body, peace to the mind, and courage to the heart. Guide the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and everyone who provides treatment and comfort.

We place every illness, pain, fear, and worry into Your loving hands. According to Your will, grant healing and restoration. And when the road is difficult, give us the grace to trust You and never lose hope.

“Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.” — Psalm 30:2

May Your healing presence remain with the sick and their families. Through Christ our Lord.

🕯️ KEEP YOUR LAMP BURNING 🕯️

In the Parable of the Ten Virgins, Jesus reminds us that we must always be ready for His coming. We may not know the day or the hour, but we can choose to live each day with faith, prayer, love, forgiveness, and good works.
Don’t wait until it’s too late. Prepare your heart today.

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” — Matthew 25:13

🙏 Lord Jesus, keep the lamp of our faith burning.
