Happy Sabbath everyone ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜‡

God is our shelter from the world, a refugee in the storm and the assurance of the uncertainties of life. He has given us the Sabbath to remind us that there is nothing in the universe which can bring us the blessing He is able to gives us.

๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: MOST CHRISTIANS donโ€™t agree about the meaning of the Bibleโ€™s special messages about the future. So, non-Christians often think that the Bibleโ€™s end-time messages are a waste of time. If Christians canโ€™t agree about what the messages mean, why should anyone bother reading them? Sad to say, many Christians start to think that Bible books with special messages about the end times canโ€™t be understood. So, they donโ€™t read them.
Things used to be different. For many hundreds of years, most Christians understood the Bibleโ€™s special messages about the future. Most Christians agreed about what the special messages meant. God wants His children to understand His special messages: โ€œChristian brothers, I ask you with all my heart in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to agree among yourselves. Do not be divided into little groups. Think and act as if you all had the same mind [thoughts]โ€ (1 Corinthians 1:10, NLV).
This week, we will look at some important rules that will help us to understand the meaning of Godโ€™s end-time messages.

There is a blessing for those who read prophecy (Rev. 1:3). However, very few feel blessed by reading the prophecies contained in Revelation, Daniel, Isaiah, Zechariah, etc.

โ€” Why does this happen? Because they don't read them with the right attitude. When Jesus said, "Let the reader understand" (Matthew 24:15,) he was telling us that we are capable of understanding them, but under certain conditions:

Reading prophecy to explain my perspective on how certain events will unfold, or without perceiving God's voice in it, is not a correct approach.

โ€” The psalmist acknowledged that he could not comprehend Godโ€™s knowledge, for His knowledge is infinite (Ps. 139:6; 147:5.) Paul tells us that Godโ€™s actions are โ€œunsearchable,โ€ that is, impossible to study and understand (Rom. 11:33.)

It is as impossible for us to understand the thought of God as it is for us to touch the moon with our hand (Is. 55:9.)

โ€” For sure, we canโ€™t fully understand the mind of God. God has no beginning and no end. God knows everything. We canโ€™t understand everything about the things He made. So, how can we understand Him fully? We canโ€™t.

โ€” Fortunately, God has made an effort to come down to our level and help us understand something of His thoughts. In the Bible, the Word of God, even the simplest mind can perceive God's love and the salvation He offers us (2 Tim. 3:15.)

The Plan of Salvation is the main theme of the Bible and, of course, of the prophecies contained therein.

โ€” Along with the command to seal the bookโ€”to hide its content until the time of the end, Daniel was told of an increase in the search for knowledgeโ€”the knowledge necessaryโ€”to understand it (Dan. 12:4.)

โ€” The book of Daniel is different from the book of Revelation. The Lord told John not to keep his book a secret (Revelation 22:10). God wanted His people to understand the book of Revelation from the start because โ€œall these things will happen soonโ€ (Revelation 1:3, NLV). Compare this verse with Daniel 12:4, which tells us that Godโ€™s people will understand the book of Daniel more clearly at a time faraway in the future.

โ€” Many Christian thinkers in the past tried to explain the book of Daniel. Some of these thinkers enjoyed much success in their studies. But people started to understand much more about the book of Daniel after the end of the 1,260- year special message about time. This special message about time ended in A.D. 1798. At that time, many Christian thinkers worldwide started to believe that something important was going to happen around 1843. William Miller was the most famous of these thinkers. His preaching caused people everywhere to get ready for the Second Coming. The Seventh-day Adventist Church grew out of this time. People began to understand the Three Angelsโ€™ Messages better.

Not only were the prophecies better understood since then, but other topics (the Sabbath, or the state of the dead, for example) were also correctly understood again.

Let us ask the Author of prophecy to give us the necessary science to understand it.

โ€” Seventh-day Adventists owe much to William Miller for their understanding of end-time happenings in the Bible. Miller didnโ€™t have a correct understanding of some important verses about the end times. One of those verses was Daniel 8:14. But Miller understood how to study the Bibleโ€™s special messages about the future. His understanding about these messages helped to start the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

โ€” Many Christians make a mistake when they study the Bible. They will use a verse in the Bible to explain what is happening on the news. But these Christians donโ€™t compare the verse to the rest of the Bible to understand its meaning. Then they write books about the future that need to be rewritten every few years. Thatโ€™s because the writers were wrong in the first place about what they said was going to happen and when it would happen.

โ€” So, itโ€™s very important to know how to study the Bible correctly. We must not choose to study only a few verses on a topic. We must carefully study everything the Bible says about that topic. We also must think about why the verse was written and when it was written. This knowledge helps us to understand what the Bible is really saying. Then we will not make the Bible say whatever we want.

โ€” When we study the Bibleโ€™s special messages about the future, we must know when the Bible is talking about a symbol or when the Bible is talking about a real experience.

Biblical prophecies are replete with symbols and images. In a few cases, the prophecy itself tells us its meaning (Dan. 8:20; Rev. 1:20.) However, in most cases, its meaning is not explained.

To understand these symbols, we must turn to other parts of the Bible where similar ideas or symbols are used. Let's look at some examples:

โ€” God may have many reasons for choosing to communicate with symbols. One example is the book of Revelation that uses Babylon as a symbol for Rome. If the Bible named Rome as the cause of so much evil, then the church could have suffered worse from Rome than it already suffered. Whatever the reasons, we can trust that God wants us to understand what the symbols mean.

God has made sure that whoever searches the prophecies is able to understand them.

๐‹๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž ๐€๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: Letโ€™s remember that the book called Revelation isnโ€™t meant to be a mystery. From Johnโ€™s time on, its purpose has been to reveal Godโ€™s actions as earthโ€™s history draws to a close. What a useful, beautiful revelation it is to know that Godโ€™s plan of salvation will prevail and heaven will someday be our home.

"God has always wanted us to know the full story. Even back in Danielโ€™s time, similar visions were given to him that help unravel many prophecies that John was given. Studying Daniel and Revelation together has proven to be most helpful in expanding our awareness of future events. Thankfully, โ€œNone need be in darkness in regard to what is coming upon the earth.โ€

Yes, there are many evils that God wonโ€™t stop because of the limits on His power in the worldwide war between good and evil. But we must try to end any suffering and evil we find. Our helping people is part of our job as Christians.
As we saw already, being fair and loving canโ€™t be separated. God loves when we are fair. If we love God, we will love to be fair, too.
Also, if we love God, we will love other people. When we love other people, we show them that we care about them and want what is best for them. When other people are suffering, hurting, hungry, or poor, we must care about their needs. We should ask ourselves what we can do, on our own and as a church, to show Godโ€™s love to other people.

โ€” True justice is demonstrated by loving. That is what Jesus asked of the rich young man, who believed himself to be righteous: show with actions your love for others [โ€œgive to the poorโ€], and your love for God [โ€œcome, follow meโ€] (Mt. 19:16-22).

โ€” Jesus said that the two most important commandments are love for God and love for other people. When we obey these commands, we must give up things so that we may show that we love other people. When we do, we show that we understand what following Jesus is really all about.

There are two sins that are mentioned insistently throughout the Bible: idolatry and social injustice. These two sins are the antithesis of the two great commandments:

โ€” God doesnโ€™t like our worship of false gods. He also doesnโ€™t want us to hurt other people. Remember, God is love. So, He becomes angry when we hurt other people or arenโ€™t fair to them.

โ€” The two biggest sins in the Old Testament are connected with the two most important commandments: to love God and to love other people. So, the two biggest sins are really failing to love as God commands us. You canโ€™t keep the commandments if you donโ€™t love God and if you donโ€™t love other people.

โ€” In 1 John 4:20, 21, we read: โ€œIf we say we love God but hate any of our brothers or sisters in his family, we are liars. If we donโ€™t love someone we have seen, how can we love God? We have never even seen him. God gave us this command: If we love God, we must also love each other as brothers and sistersโ€ (ERV).

Since God loves justice (Ps. 33:5), it is logical that He would be angry with those who act unjustly.

โ€” One of the clearest examples is found in Psalm 82, where Asaph shows us God's reaction to the attitude of the judges who had the responsibility of applying justice, but used their authority to act unjustly.

โ€” These judges, called gods because of their position of responsibility โ€“ exercising justice by divine delegation (Ps. 82:1, 6; Jn. 10:34-36) โ€“ defend injustice and favor the wicked.

God especially calls them to defend the helpless and the needy (Ps. 82:2-4 NIV ). If they do not do so, they will die for their unrighteousness (Ps. 82:7).

And this cry for justice does not concern only those who have judicial responsibilities. God demands that each of us do justice (Mic. 6:8; Dt. 16:20; Pr. 21:3; 1 Jn. 2:29).

โ€” The prophets in the Bible were Godโ€™s special messengers. The prophets told the leaders of Israel to be fair. Again and again, the Bible warns us not to hurt people and to be fair. When the prophets asked God to punish evil, they were really asking God to fill the land with leaders who were fair and showed mercy to the people.

To do justice is not to be fair, but to apply the Law correctly to others. Hence, in the Law itself [the Pentateuch] there are exceptions to protect the helpless (Deut. 24:17-21).

โ€” Nearly all the prophets have words of rebuke for those who act unjustly toward others or fail to apply justice in love (Is. 1:23; Jer. 22:3; Ez. 22:7; Zech. 7:10). For Isaiah, for example, seeking justice involves helping the helpless (Is. 1:17).

Nehemiah was outraged when, under the protection of the law, the rich demanded the repayment of loans without taking into account the poverty of their brothers (Neh. 5:6-11).

โ€” This message is important for us today. โ€œ โ€˜Learn to do good. Look for what is right [correct] and fair. Speak strong words to those who make it hard for people. Stand up for the rights [needs] of those [people] who have no parents. Help the woman whose husband has diedโ€™ โ€ (Isaiah 1:17, NLV).

โ€” Jesus cared about being fair. He said, โ€œ โ€˜You who pretend to be someone you are not! You give one-tenth part of your spices, and have not done the most important things of the Law, such as [like or as in the following examples] thinking what is right and wrong, and having pity and faith. These you should have done and still [continue to] have done the other things alsoโ€™ โ€ (Matthew 23:23, NLV).

โ€” Many understood that the command recorded in Leviticus 19:18 to love oneโ€™s neighbor applied only to those who were Israelites. If you are not an Israelite, you are not my neighbor. However, not everyone held that view. Thus, one scribe who asked a question that he himself was capable of answering wanted to justify himself by asking, โ€œWho is my neighbor?โ€ (Luke 10:25-29).

โ€” In Lukeโ€™s story about Jesus, Jesus announces to a lawyer that the two most important commandments are love for God and love for our neighbor. Then the lawyer โ€œwanted to make himself look good [holy]. So he asked Jesus, โ€˜And who is my neighbor?โ€™ โ€ (Luke 10:29, NIV). Jesus answers the manโ€™s question with the surprising picture story about the good Samaritan.

โ€” Jesus did not reveal the nationality of the wounded man on the road to Jericho. Neither the priest nor the Levite, who were examples of fulfilling the Law, were interested in the helpless man. However, a โ€œnon-neighbor,โ€ a Samaritan, was โ€œmoved with mercyโ€ and fulfilled the Law of loving oneโ€™s neighbor as oneself (Luke 10:30-37).

Jesus did more than talk about being fair. Jesus lived the sermon He preached about being fair.

As we see, the Bible plainly tells us that we should help people all around us who are in need and hurting.
