One of the countryโ€™s oldest Augustinian churches, the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul started out as a chapel made of wood and thatch in 1578 by order of Juan de Salcedo, the conquistador and founder of Villa Fernandina, which later became the town of Vigan. The Cathedral was the site of several historical events, including the take-over of revolutionaries led by Col. Juan Vil

lamor in 1896 and by American forces under Lt. The original chapel was damaged by an earthquake in 1619 and 1627. The church itself was built in 1641 to replace the chapel and became a cathedral when the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia was transferred here from Lal-lo, Cagayan in 1758, but not before being ravaged by a fire in 1739. The Cathedral of Vigan, as it is sometimes called, is a stunning tribute to Baroque architecture modified by the Ilocanos to survive earthquakes. It also has a bit of Chinese influence as evidenced by the carvings of lion dogs beside the outermost doors.

Following the 5:00 PM Holy Mass, a Eucharistic Procession will take place through the streets of our city as a public profession of our faith in the Real Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

Let us gather as one community of believers, united in prayer and devotion, to honor the Eucharistic Lord who continually nourishes and sustains His Church.

Participants are kindly requested to wear white and/or yellow attire and to bring candles for the procession.

Apo Lakay, our refuge and our hope, invites us into a deeper trust in Godโ€™s plan. In moments of suffering and uncertainty, we look to His Cross and are reminded that no burden is too heavy when carried with Him. His love sustains, heals, and restores.

The faithful came together on Holy Tuesday for the Estaciรณn General in the Heritage City of Vigan, prayerfully meditating on the Stations of the Cross.

As we journeyed from one station to another, we were reminded of Christโ€™s immense love revealed through His Passion and Death. In walking this path, we are called to unite our own sufferings with His and to follow Him more closely each day.

May this sacred devotion renew our hearts and guide us toward a more faithful and meaningful observance of Holy Week.
