The garden was quiet that morning. The tomb, sealed and guarded, stood as a symbol of finality. Jesus was dead. For the disciples, hope seemed buried along with Jesus’ body. Grief lingered in the silence, and the weight of death felt permanent. What had begun on Good Friday as a sacrifice and unfolded on Black Saturday as sorrow appeared to have reached its end. The stone, heavy and immovable, seemed to declare that death had won.
But resurrection does not arrive loudly; it breaks in suddenly. When the stone was found rolled away and the tomb stood empty, shock gave way to wonder. The grave clothes, neatly folded, told a story that no one had expected. Jesus did not escape death; He defeated it. What looked like an ending was, in truth, the greatest beginning the world has ever known. Jesus has risen. Life has overcome death.
In Christ, our old life no longer defines us. Our past failures, shame, and fear of death no longer have authority. Because Jesus lives, we, who are united to Him, are raised to a new way of living. Scripture reminds us that we are no longer bound to who we were. We are seated with Christ and given a new identity, purpose, and hope.
Resurrection life is already at work in us. We walk differently now, not because life is easy, but because death has lost its power. Hope is no longer uncertain. It is steady and secure, anchored in our Savior who rose from the dead and will raise us with Him.
