Tonight, the Knights of the Altar had a TGIF Activity together with our speaker, Bro. Perry Cervera, SDB.

Bro. Perry shared to our young boys that vocation is not just about becoming successful in life, but answering Godโ€™s call to serve. He talked about Samuel, who was young and ordinary, but was available and willing to listen to God. Just like Samuel, Knights of the Altar are also called to always be available in serving.

He reminded us that:
โ€œSometimes, vocation begins not with a loud miracle, but with faithful service.โ€

He also shared that God is the reason why we serve, and that:
โ€œGod does not call perfect people. He forms the people He calls.โ€

Everyone makes mistakes, just like St. Peter who denied Jesus three times. But our mistakes can help us grow and become better persons.

Bro. Perry also shared that serving at the altar teaches us:
โ€ข Discipline
โ€ข Reverence
โ€ข Responsibility
โ€ข Humility
โ€ข Prayerfulness

He reminded the boys that:
โ€œA priest is first a servant, and altar serving trains the heart to serve.โ€

Many priests started as altar servers, including Bro. Perry himself. He shared his journey as a former Knight of the Altar and how serving during the Holy Mass helped him discover his vocation.

He also reminded us that priesthood is not about fame, power, or status, but about love and service to God and others.

Lastly, he encouraged the young boys to reflect on this question:
โ€œAm I willing to let God guide me?โ€

A vocation grows in silence and prayer. Do not be afraid if God is calling you, because He will also give you the grace to respond.

Last night, the KOA Basketball Summer Cup 2026 Season 2 was finally back after a 1-week break!

The first game was intense as Virgen De Los Remedios went up against San Lorenzo Parish - Tisa. Both teams played hard, but Virgen De Los Remedios - A. Lopez grabbed the win and now holds a 3-0 standing.

In the second game, DBYC Lawaan faced DBYC Pasil in another matchup. In the end, DBYC Lawaan took home the victory.

Last night, we celebrated the Feast Day of Mary Help of Christians and Pentecost Sunday through a simple Soiree and salo-salo organized by the DBYC Lourdes Auxilium Sodality together with the youth and community.

We also welcomed two brothers from the Salesians of Don Bosco, Bro. Perry and Bro. Vanjo. Bro. Perry will stay with us for 1 month, while Bro. Vanjo will stay with us for 1 week. After the Soiree, the Knights of the Altar had a picture-taking with them.

Today, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday the day the Holy Spirit came down to the Apostles and gave them courage, strength, and faith to spread the Word of God.

Pentecost reminds us that God is always with us, guiding us in our daily lives. As altar servers and youth, may we continue to serve with love, faith, and kindness to others.

May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts with peace, wisdom, and courage as we continue our journey with Christ.

MAY 24 | Feast of Mary Help of Christians

The tradition of this advocation goes back to 1571, when the whole of Christendom was saved by Mary Help of Christians when Catholics throughout Europe prayed the Rosary. The great battle of Lepanto occurred on October 7th 1571. For this reason this date has been chosen as the feast of the Holy Rosary. In 1573 Pope Pius V instituted the feast in thanksgiving for the decisive victory of Christianity over Islamism.

Near the end of the 17th century, Emperor Leopold I of Austria took refuge in the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Pasau, when 200,000 Ottoman Turks besieged the capital city of Vienna, but a great victory occurred thanks to Mary Help of Christians: on September 8th, Feast of Our Lady's Birthday, plans were drawn for the battle. On September 12, Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, Vienna was finally freed through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. All Europe had joined with the Emperor crying out "Mary, Help!" and praying the Holy rosary.

In 1809, Napoleon's men entered the Vatican, arrested Pius VII and brought him in chains to Grenoble, and eventually Fontainbleau. His imprisonment lasted five years. The Holy Father vowed to God that , if he were restored to the Roman See, he would institute a special feast in honor of Mary. Military reverses forced Napoleon to release the Pope, and on May 24th 1814, Pius VII returned in triumph to Rome. Twelve months later, the Pope decreed that the feast of Mary Help of Christians, be kept on the 24th of May.
