Courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act despite it. In life, there are moments when staying silent feels safer than speaking up. However, true courage is shown when a person chooses to stand for what is right at the right time. This powerful lesson can be seen in the story of Queen Esther.
Esther was an ordinary Jewish woman who became queen in the kingdom of Persia. Although she lived in the palace, she faced a difficult situation when her people were threatened with destruction because of the evil plan of Haman. Esther knew that approaching the king without permission could cost her life. Fear could have stopped her, but she chose courage over comfort. Encouraged by her cousin Mordecai, Esther understood that perhaps she had been placed in her position “for such a time as this.” Instead of remaining silent, she fasted, prayed, and prepared herself before going to the king.
What made Esther’s actions even more powerful was her understanding of timing. She did not rush carelessly into the situation. She waited for the proper moment to speak and reveal the truth. Her wisdom, patience, and courage worked together to save her people. Esther’s story teaches us that courage alone is not enough; knowing when to act is equally important. In our own lives, there may be moments when we are called to defend others, speak the truth, or make difficult decisions. Like Esther, we must trust God, be brave, and recognize the opportunities placed before us at the right time.
The story of Esther reminds us that one courageous decision can change many lives. Fear may try to silence us, but faith gives us strength to move forward. Courage and timing are powerful when guided by wisdom and purpose. Just as Esther became a blessing to her people, we too can make a difference when we choose to act with bravery at the right moment.
