"Love Mary! She is loveable, faithful, constant.
She will never let herself be outdone in love
but will ever remain supreme.
If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you.
If you are troubled, she will console you.
If you are sick, she will bring you relief.
If you are in need, she will help you.

Mary does not look to see what kind of person you have been.
She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her.
She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you,
embraces you and consoles and serves you.
She will even be at hand,
to accompany you on the trip to eternity.”

-St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

Today we honor St. Claude de la Colombiere, a 17th-century French Jesuit priest born in 1641 . He is best known as the spiritual director and steadfast supporter of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, validating her visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and becoming a zealous apostle of the devotion . Sent to England as preacher to the Duchess of York, he was later imprisoned during the anti-Catholic "Popish Plot" and expelled, which ruined his health . He died at Paray-le-Monial in 1682 and was canonized in 1992 . His feast day is celbrated on February 15.

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, celebrated today, marks the 1858 apparitions to Bernadette Soubirous in France. At the grotto, Mary identified herself as the Immaculate Conception, revealing a healing spring. Her core message, "I do not promise you happiness in this world, but in the next," provides a cornerstone of Christian hope. It acknowledges earthly trials while firmly directing the faithful toward the ultimate promise of eternal salvation and joy, making Lourdes a global sanctuary for pilgrims seeking spiritual consolation and transcendent peace. Her feast day is celebrated every February 11.

Today we honor Bl. Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a German Augustinian nun and mystic. Renowned for receiving the stigmata in 1812, her detailed visions of the life of Christ and a harrowing vision of Hell were recorded by poet Clemens Brentano. She described Hell not as fire, but as a state of absolute spiritual desolation, chaos, and despair from self-imposed separation from God. The Church, which beatified her in 2004, venerates her heroic virtue.

In her famous portrait, the gesture of holding her head is a profound symbol of her chronic, mystical suffering. She endured severe headaches and spiritual agony, which she understood as a participation in Christ's Crown of Thorns. This posture artistically captures her compassionate union with the Passion and the immense price of her visionary life. She died on February 9, 1824.

Today we honor St. Jerome Emiliani. Born in Venice in 1486, he lived a reckless early life. After a dramatic imprisonment and conversion, he dedicated himself to serving the poor, especially orphans. Moved by the suffering following war and plague, he founded orphanages, hospitals, and a religious order, the Clerks Regular of Somasca. His pioneering work focused on education and care for abandoned youth. He died in 1537, contracting an illness while tending the sick. He is the patron saint of orphans and abandoned children. His feast is celebrated on February 8.

Today we honor St. Josephine Bakhita (1869–1947), a model of resilience and forgiveness. Kidnapped in Sudan as a child, she endured brutal enslavement. Sold and resold, she bore horrific physical scars. Finally, in Italy, she gained freedom through the Canossian Sisters. She embraced Catholicism, choosing religious life. For fifty years, she served humbly as a doorkeeper, radiating gentle kindness. Canonized in 2000, she is the patron saint of Sudan and survivors of human trafficking, a testament to hope rising from profound suffering. Her feast is celebrated on February 8.

Confession cleanses the soul, but only when offered with sincere sorrow and a firm purpose of amendment. Do not remain in the mud of sin, for it hardens the heart. As 1 John 1:9 assures, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Run to this sacrament; receive God's mercy, and rise to walk again in His grace.

When we speak, let us imagine our words are heard first by God. Would they be gentle, loving, and worthy of His ear? In that holy awareness, our speech is purified. We offer our voices not as weapons, but as prayers. Every conversation becomes an opportunity to honor the presence of Christ in our brother or sister. Thus, our ordinary words become a sacred dialogue with the Divine.

True love, pure and aligned with God's will, is our purgation on earth. It burns away imperfection not with passive fear, but with active desire for God alone. Purgatory remains a mercy for the not-yet-perfected, but love—ardent, surrendered love—yearns for immediate union, making the soul a ready bride for the eternal wedding feast.

We honor today St. John Bosco, a 19th-century Italian priest devoted to impoverished youth. Facing industrialization's harshness, he founded the Oratory in Turin, a home, school, and playground. He educated through reason, religion, and kindness—the "Preventive System." His work blossomed into the Salesian order, now serving globally. Known for prophetic dreams and relentless cheer, he believed, "Serve the Lord with joy." He is patron of apprentices and the young. His feast day is celebrated on January 31.

We honor today St. Thomas Aquinas, a 13th-century Italian Dominican friar, philosopher, and theologian. A foundational figure in Catholic thought, he masterfully synthesized faith and reason, integrating Aristotelian philosophy with Christian doctrine. His monumental work, the Summa Theologica, remains a pinnacle of systematic theology. Declared a Doctor of the Church, his teachings on natural law and metaphysics endure. Known as the "Angelic Doctor," he sought ultimate truth, famously stating, "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary." His feast day is celebrated on January 28.
