History of the Shrine of Mary Co-Redemptrix

Seven years ago, in the year 2000, our Institute, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, searched for a place in the island of Cebu where we could build a Church that will be dedicated to Mary Mediatrix of All Graces. Bonaventure Maria Valles, FI, who was then the General Delegate of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate was able to find a place at

Brgy. The process of acquiring the land was then begun. It was quite difficult because it was composed of different lots belonging to different owners. Some were donated and some were bought. After finishing all the projects that we have, we turned our attention to the construction of the Church in Talamban. Funds were raised through begging and raffle draws, one during the time of Fr. Bonaventure Maria and one during Fr. About the year 2005, our Major Superiors in Italy told us to change the name of the Church to be built. It should be dedicated instead to Mary Coredemptrix, like the one we have in Naga City. On January, 2006, our Father General, Rev. Stefano Maria Manelli visited our communities here in the Philippines. Stefano took time to visit the site in Talamban where he blessed the area. He looked carefully at the tentative architectural plan of the future Church and suggested that the plan be changed since it was too massive and therefore too expensive. He wanted to pattern the new Church after that of Naga City with some modifications such as a wider and longer structure to be able to accommodate more people and our long time friend in Manila, namely Engr. Jose Soriano Jr, prepared the plan. On June, 2006 our Vicar General, Rev. Gabriele Maria Pellietieri came to the Philippines. He was able to talk with Engr. Soriano to finalize the plans. Finally on August 2, 2006, in the presence of Fr. Gabriele Maria the corner stone of the new Church was laid. Soon after, on August 22 the ground breaking began and the construction commenced in full swing. Funds for the construction came from Italy and the Philippines, all given as donations from generous souls. Mercy Tuason, helped us a lot for this project through her generosity and has never stopped helping us since 1992 when we constructed our first convent in Brgy. Tolo-Tolo, Consolacion, Cebu. The Friars, Sisters, Tertiaries, MIM members and YFI (Youth Franciscans of the Immaculate) all cooperated wonderfully to the realization of this awesome project of the Immaculate Virgin Mary. Friar Michael Angelo Mary and a painter, Friar John Michael Mary worked together to make the beautiful design of the altar, especially the statue of Jesus, and Mary as Coredemptrix, which was placed on top of the main altar in sanctuary. The beautiful golden tabernacle came all the way from India, donated by one of our benefactors, Mrs. Susan Khambata. The thick one-piece marble slab was shipped all the way from Romblon. Finally on November 18, 2007 at exactly 3:30 in the afternoon, the new Church dedicated to Mary Coredemtprix was solemnly blessed and consecrated by His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Archbishop of Cebu.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Did you know?

The Holy Trinity is the greatest mystery of our faith:

โœจ One God
โœจ Three Divine Persons
โœจ Perfect unity and love

God the Father creates us.
God the Son redeems us.
God the Holy Spirit sanctifies and guides us.

Though the mystery is beyond human understanding,
the Trinity reveals something beautiful:

God is not distant.
God is communion.
God is love.

Every time we make the Sign of the Cross, we are reminded that our lives begin and end in the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Trinity invites us not only to believe in God, but to live in relationship with Him.

Ave Maria!

O St. Augustine of Canterbury,
faithful missionary and shepherd of souls, pray for us that we may have courage to proclaim Christ in our daily lives.

Help us to remain faithful in times of uncertainty, to trust in Godโ€™s plan,
and to lead others closer to Him through love and example.

May we always respond generously
to the mission God gives us.

St. Augustine of Canterbury,
pray for us. ๐Ÿ’™

Amen!

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
November 10, 2024

Reading I
1 Kings 17:10-16

In those days, Elijah the prophet went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the entrance of the city, a widow was gathering sticks there; he called out to her, "Please bring me a small cupful of water to drink." She left to get it, and he called out after her, "Please bring along a bit of bread." She answered, "As the LORD, your God, lives, I have nothing baked; there is only a handful of flour in my jar and a little oil in my jug. Just now I was collecting a couple of sticks, to go in and prepare something for myself and my son; when we have eaten it, we shall die." Elijah said to her, "Do not be afraid. Go and do as you propose. But first make me a little cake and bring it to me. Then you can prepare something for yourself and your son. For the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'The jar of flour shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.'" She left and did as Elijah had said. She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well; the jar of flour did not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, as the LORD had foretold through Elijah.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 146:7, 8-9, 9-10

Praise the Lord, my soul!

The LORD keeps faith forever, secures justice for the oppressed, gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets captives free.

Praise the Lord, my soul!

The LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD raises up those who were bowed down; the LORD loves the just. The LORD protects strangers.

Praise the Lord, my soul!

The fatherless and the widow he sustains, but the way of the wicked he thwarts. The LORD shall reign forever; your God, O Zion, through all generations. Alleluia.

Praise the Lord, my soul!

Reading II
Hebrews 9:24-28

Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf. Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that is not his own; if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice. Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after this the judgment, so also Christ, offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him.

----------------------

Alleluia
Mt 5:3

Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel
Mark 12:38-44

In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds, "Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation." He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."
