33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Malachi 3:19โ20; 2 Thessalonians 3:7โ12; Luke 21:5โ19
As the Church nears the end of the liturgical year, the readings today lead us to reflect on a question people have been asking for centuries: โIf there is an end to all things, how should we live?โ
1. Live with HOPE, not fear
Malachi speaks of โthe day of the Lord,โ a day that feels like fire to the wicked but like the rising sun to the faithful.
Fear is not the Christian response to the end of the world. Hope is.
The early Christians were persecuted, misunderstood, and marginalized โ yet they lived with hope because they knew: The end of the world is not the end of God. If God remains faithful, why should we fear?
So when people frighten us with predictions, dates, and conspiracy theories, let us remember:
The focus is not โWhen will the world end?โ
The focus is โHow will God find my heart when everything ends?โ
2. Live with RESPONSIBILITY, not laziness
In the second reading, St. Paul is very practical. Some Thessalonians stopped working because they believed the end was near. Paul firmly corrects them: โIf anyone is unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.โ
Why? Because the Christian way is not to run away from reality but to engage it.
The end of the world is not an excuse to be irresponsible, passive, or idle. A Christian prepares for the future not by abandoning daily duty, but by being faithful in the present.
Our hope for heaven must make us more responsible on earth, not less.
3. Live with COURAGE and FAITHFULNESS
In the Gospel, Jesus speaks honestly: There will be wars. There will be earthquakes. There will be plagues, persecution, betrayal, confusion.
Yet He says: โDo not be terrified.โ
and โBy your perseverance you will secure your lives.โ
God is telling us: The world may shake, but your faith must remain steady.
We do not control the future. But we know the One who holds the future in His hands.
So our response is not panic โ but perseverance.
Not escape โ but endurance.
Not despair โ but discipleship.

So if the world will one day end, what should be our Christian approach to life?
(1) Live TODAY with PURPOSE
Donโt postpone goodness.
Donโt delay forgiveness.
Donโt wait to love.
The end of the world simply reminds us that life is short โ so make every day holy.
(2) Live EVERYDAY with RESPONSIBILITY
Work honestly.
Serve faithfully.
Pray constantly.
Build a world that reflects Godโs kingdom โ even if the world is passing away.
(3) Live ALWAYS with HOPE
The world ends โ but Godโs love does not.
The world passes โ but Godโs promise remains.
The world shakes โ but God never lets go of us.
