AUGUST 15 2026 | INTERDIOCESAN LEAGUE

"A SOUND MIND IN A SOUND BODY."

The Carolinos gathered today for an Inter-Diocesan League Sports Competition! From intense board games to high-energy team-building activities, our seminarians showed true sportsmanship and unity in action. More than just a friendly competition, this league serves as a stepping stone as they gear up for the upcoming Gathering of Theological Seminaries in Visayas this October.

The competing teams were composed of:

🔵 CASA (Cebu Archdiocesan Seminarians Association)
🟢 MAMANEG (Maasin, Masbate, and Negros Seminarians)
đź”´ (Talibon-Tagbilaran Organization of Seminarians in Cebu)
⚪️ MINDANA-ONE (Seminarians from Butuan, Prosperidad, Tagum, Surigao, and Dipolog)

Though coming from different dioceses, the Carolinos proved that they are united in one mission and brotherhood. Keep the spirit alive, brothers!

AUGUST 15 2026 | SATURDAY OF THE 19TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Memorial of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today, the Church celebrates the Assumption of Mary—body and soul—into heaven, a dogma proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in 1950, though its roots trace back to the 5th century as her "Birth into heaven" or "Dormition."

Because Mary was preserved from sin as the Mother of Jesus, she was spared the corruption of death. Her bodily assumption is a powerful reminder that God created both our souls and our physical bodies as "very good" (Gn 1:31).

Most importantly, Mary’s glorious destiny is a sign of sure hope for all of us: what God has already accomplished in Mary, He promises to do for all who are united to Christ. Her feast day doesn't pull us away from the world; instead, it calls us to live out her Magnificat here on Earth—rejoicing in God’s mercy and caring for the weak, poor, and vulnerable.

Knowing that God created both our souls and our physical bodies as "very good" and destined for eternal glory, how does this shift the way we care for and treat our own bodies and the bodies of others?

O Queen Assumed into Heaven, pray for us!

AUGUST 14 2026 | FRIDAY OF THE 19TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Memorial of St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe

Today we honor Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish Conventual Franciscan priest, brilliant scholar, and courageous martyr of Auschwitz whose life demonstrated the ultimate triumph of love over hatred.

As a young boy of 12, Maximilian received a vision of the Virgin Mary offering him two crowns: a white one for purity and a red one for martyrdom. He boldly accepted both. Driven by his deep devotion to Our Lady, he founded the Militia Immaculata (Army of the Immaculate One) and built massive publishing networks and monasteries in Poland and Japan to share the Gospel.

When World War II broke out, Fr. Kolbe transformed his monastery into a refuge, sheltering thousands of refugees—including over 2,000 Jews—and publishing anti-Nazi works. Arrested by the Gestapo in 1941, he was eventually sent to Auschwitz.

In July 1941, when a prisoner escaped, guards selected ten men to starve to death in retribution. Fr. Kolbe stepped forward and offered his own life to take the place of a husband and father. In the starvation bunker, he led his fellow prisoners in prayers and hymns to Our Lady, radiating calm until his martyrdom on August 14, 1941.

In our own daily lives, how can we step forward to show sacrificial love and stand up for those who are suffering or vulnerable?

St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe, pray for us!
