"GOD... DOES NOT LIVE IN TEMPLES BUILT BY HUMANS HANDS..."

When Paul visited Athens he was amazed by their temples and how "religious" they were. After hearing him for a while the people invited him to speak to them about this "new teaching". He confronted them about their "worship" and their misunderstanding about what God wanted (see Paul's sermon below).

What is "worship"? Why not join our seminar THIS WEEK?

Topic: "What is Worship, Really?"
When: February 26-27 (Thursday and Friday)
Time: 6:00-8:00PM
Where: The Bible Study Center here in Cebu City

Let's dive into the scriptures and see how God defines service to Him!

22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

Acts 17:22-31 (NIV)

In the middle of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew he gave us these words. We hope you can find encouragement in them as well.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)

Join our FREE 2-day Bible Seminar starting tomorrow (Thursday)!

Topic: "The Joy of Generosity"
When: January 8-9, 6:00PM-8:00PM (Thursday & Friday)
Where: The Bible Study Center, Cebu City

Join us as we look at what the scriptures have to say about tithing and giving. Let's look together at what God says in His word.

See you tomorrow, Lord willing!

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV)

FREE BIBLE SEMINAR THIS WEEK

"If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
James 2:15-16

Giving is a topic which is spoken on often, but what does the Bible REALLY say about it?

- What is tithing? Should we tithe today?
- How and when should I give?
- What is a "cheerful giver"?

Let's tackle these questions and more together! The BSC invites you to join our FREE Bible study seminar THIS week.

What? "The Joy of Generosity" our FREE 2-day seminar on what the Bible says about giving
When? January 8-9 (Thursday and Friday) from 6:00-8:00PM
Where? Our office in Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City

Please send us a message if you have any questions. We hope to see you Thursday night!

Happy New Year! May we strive more in this new year to grow in our understanding of God and His will for us, and may we make more efforts to dig into his word to deepen our relationship with him!

Psalm 90 (NIV)
(A prayer of Moses the man of God)

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
throughout all generations.
2 Before the mountains were born
or you brought forth the whole world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3 You turn people back to dust,
saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.”
4 A thousand years in your sight
are like a day that has just gone by,
or like a watch in the night.
5 Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death—
they are like the new grass of the morning:
6 In the morning it springs up new,
but by evening it is dry and withered.

7 We are consumed by your anger
and terrified by your indignation.
8 You have set our iniquities before you,
our secret sins in the light of your presence.
9 All our days pass away under your wrath;
we finish our years with a moan.
10 Our days may come to seventy years,
or eighty, if our strength endures;
yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,
for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
11 If only we knew the power of your anger!
Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.
12 Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

13 Relent, Lord! How long will it be?
Have compassion on your servants.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16 May your deeds be shown to your servants,
your splendor to their children.

17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us;
establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands.
