1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

We have a problem. God is holy; He’s “the just.” We are unholy; we are “the unjust.” How could God, who is holy, punish sin and love the sinner at the same time? That’s the problem that was solved by Calvary. God was, in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself. Here, the doctor not only makes a house call, leaves Heaven, and comes to Earth, but the doctor Himself makes the patient well by taking the patient’s sickness. He dies: “the just for the unjust.” The judge not only adjudicates the criminal guilty, but also steps from behind the bench, stands in the place of the accused, and takes the punishment upon Himself. You’ll never understand the cross until you understand the principle of substitution. Jesus Christ died for us.

Psalms 22:31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

Who were the people who would be born? Lift your hand. Hold it up. Say, “I’m the one that He’s talking about.” David, looking down through the centuries, looked at the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And then he said, “It is for a people that will be born” who will say, “He has done this.” Do you know what “he has done this” means literally? It is finished. Second Chronicles 4:11 says, “Then Huram made the pots and the shovels and the bowls. So Huram finished doing the work that he was to do.” Now, where it says he “finished the work,” it’s exactly the same word used here in the phrase “he has done this.” It is the Hebrew word ossa, which means, in one word, “it is finished.” And when Jesus, the Son of God, bowed His head upon Calvary’s cross, He said in one Greek word, tetelestai, which means, “It is finished.”

Psalms 22:19-21
19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

I went to a prison where people are electrocuted. I went into the room where the electric chair is and sat down. I put my hands on the arms where the electrodes are and my legs where they would be strapped down. And I thought, what a terrible thing it must be to be electrocuted or to be put to death by injection.

But there is no ex*****on like crucifixion. In six hours, the eternities were compressed. In six hours, the sins of the world were distilled, and Jesus, the Son of God, died at the holy hands of God, the hateful hands of man, and the hellish hands of Satan. Why? Because He loves us.

How does it affect you to know Jesus died in one of the worst possible ways for your sake?

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Reckon is a bookkeeping term. It does not mean to think, feel, or guess, but speaks of something that you can count on—a matter of fact. Reckoning in the context of this verse means acting by faith on what you know to be a fact. The fact is that Christ died for you, and you died with Him, and you must reckon on it. You may ask, “Well, what does that mean?” If you’re saved, you already know how to reckon. That’s how you got saved. You believe Jesus Christ died for your sins and put your faith where God put your sins—on Jesus. Were you there when it happened? Did you see it with your eyes? No, but you know it to be true, and you reckoned on it for salvation. In the same way, you reckon for sanctification. As you receive the Lord Jesus, so walk in Him. We’re not told to feel it. We’re not even told, really, to understand it. But we are told to reckon on it.

What would it look like for a person to reckon on the fact of Jesus’s death and resurrection daily?

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

What is the doctrine of identification? It is to be identified with Jesus who gave Himself for you. When Jesus was crucified, when Jesus faced that agony, that passion upon the cross, not only was Christ on that cross, but since He was your substitute, you were on that cross. Since He died for you, the old person you used to be died with Him, and now you have become one with Him in His death. You are no longer in Adam. Now you are in Christ. You are now identified with Christ. Everybody in the world is either in Adam or in Christ. Because of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, when Jesus died, the old man or woman that you used to be died with Him.

What does it mean that every person is either in Adam or in Christ?
How does your life look different because you are in Christ?

What gives you confidence that you are “in Christ”? If you are not confident, how is God calling you to respond to Him today? CHRIST MINDED IN MISSIONS 2026
