le at the Shrine Office. After the beatification of Pedro Calungsod in 2000, it became necessary to have a shrine for the propagation of the devotion to this very first Visayan “Beato”. Cardinal Vidal, together with generous benefactors, embarked on the project and laid the corner stone at the Archbishop’s Residence Compound along D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City, on 2 April 2001. Designed by Prudence Salutillo with some ideas from Fr. Ildebrando Jesus Aliño Leyson, and executed by Engr. Lerio Leyson with the Soley Construction, the Shrine was finally consecrated on 11 December 2002. Since then, considerable parts and details were continuously added to the Shrine by its first rector, Fr. Albert Lim for the building, Constantino Maderazo for the iron works and many devoted donors for the furnishings. The Shrine has steadily functioned thanks to the support of its faithful benefactors and volunteers.
