Saint Maximus the Confessor
Feast Day: August 13
Born: c. 580, Constantinople
Died: August 13, 662, Lazica (modern Georgia)

Saint Maximus was a brilliant theologian, monk, and defender of the true faith during a time of deep controversy in the Church. He firmly opposed the Monothelite heresy, which taught that Christ had only one will. Maximus taught that Jesus, being both fully God and fully man, had two wills — divine and human — perfectly united in harmony.

His unwavering defense of this truth led to severe persecution. He was arrested, exiled, and tortured — his tongue was cut out and his right hand was amputated so he could no longer speak or write. Despite this, his courage and faith inspired many, and his theological writings still influence the Church today.

Maximus is honored as a Confessor of the Faith, meaning he suffered greatly for the truth without being killed outright. He is remembered for his deep spiritual insight, his love for Christ, and his unshakable commitment to the Gospel, even in the face of suffering.

Patronage: Theologians, those persecuted for their faith
Legacy: A shining example of intellectual clarity and spiritual bravery in defending the fullness of Christ’s humanity and divinity.

Saint Dominic de Guzmán was born in Caleruega, Spain, around 1170. From a young age, he was deeply devoted to God and compassionate toward the poor. While studying and later serving as a priest, Dominic developed a passion for teaching the truth of the faith.

In the early 13th century, he founded the Order of Preachers—now known as the Dominicans—with the mission of spreading the Gospel through preaching, study, and a life of poverty. He was known for his humility, discipline, and tireless travel to share God’s Word, especially as he worked to counter false teachings like the Albigensian heresy.

Tradition holds that the Blessed Virgin Mary gave him the Rosary as a spiritual weapon for conversion and prayer. Dominic’s deep love for Mary and devotion to the Rosary remain a hallmark of Dominican spirituality.

He died on August 6, 1221, in Bologna, Italy, and was canonized in 1234. Today, he is remembered as a model preacher, a man of deep prayer, and a servant dedicated to truth and the salvation of souls.

Patronage: Astronomers, the Dominican Republic, and the Dominican Order.
Feast Day: August 8.

Evening Prayer

Heavenly Father,
As the day comes to a close, I thank You for the gift of life, for every blessing, and for every lesson this day has brought.
Forgive me for my faults and shortcomings, and wash away anything that has drawn me away from You.

Lord, grant me peace in my heart and mind as I rest.
Protect my loved ones through the night, and keep us safe under Your loving care.
Renew my strength, restore my spirit, and let my dreams be filled with hope and light.

Tomorrow, guide my steps to walk in Your ways —
with love, patience, and faith that shines.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.

Saint Cajetan – The Saint of Divine Providence

Feast Day: August 7

Saint Cajetan (1480–1547), born in Italy, was a devoted priest and reformer during a time when the Catholic Church faced great corruption and moral decline. Originally trained as a lawyer, he left behind a promising career to dedicate his life fully to God and the service of others.

He co-founded the Theatine Order, a group of priests committed to renewing the Church through holiness, prayer, and care for the poor. Saint Cajetan is known for his deep faith, compassion for the sick and unemployed, and strong belief in Divine Providence—trusting God to provide for all needs.

He also founded a kind of early Christian bank to help the poor avoid exploitation by loan sharks. Despite hardships, including persecution and torture, he remained a humble servant of Christ.

Today, he is honored as the patron saint of job seekers, the unemployed, bankers, and those facing financial struggles—a powerful intercessor in times of need.

“He was born blind. People whispered, judged, and questioned why. But then Jesus passed by…”

In this powerful story from John 9:1–41, we witness a life-changing miracle—Jesus heals a man who was blind from birth. But the real message goes deeper than physical sight. It's a story about faith, rejection, truth, and what it really means to see.
