Holy Wednesday reminds us of a quiet but challenging truth: even those closest to Jesus Christ, like Judas Iscariot, were capable of betrayal. His decision did not happen all at once. It grew from small, hidden choices shaped by pressure, temptation, and personal desires. This day invites us to reflect on how easily we, too, can lose our way when we are not careful with our decisions.
For students, this message feels very real. Betrayal in everyday life may not look dramatic, but it can appear in simple actions such as cheating on a test, leaving a friend behind to fit in, spreading gossip, or compromising values just to belong. These choices often seem small, but they reveal who we are becoming. Holy Wednesday challenges students to think about what they do when no one is watching and whether they choose integrity even in difficult situations.
Ultimately, this day is a reminder that being a student is not only about academic success but also about building character. Each decision, big or small, shapes our values and future. As it says in the Gospel of Mark 8:36, โWhat does it profit a person to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?โ
Holy Wednesday calls us to choose honesty, loyalty, and faithfulness, even when it is hard, because these are the choices that truly define us.
