GOLDEN JUBILEE | Happy 50th Presbyteral Ordination Anniversary, our dear Archbishop Emeritus of Cebu, Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, DD! πŸŽ‰

Born on March 19, 1950, in the quiet town of Di**le, Iloilo, Archbishop Palmaβ€”affectionately called β€œNono” by his loved onesβ€”grew up as the second of eight children in a humble, faith-filled family.

In their simple home, he first encountered God’s love through his parents, Ruperto and Ester. His father, Tatay Ruperto, a respected barangay chief, instilled in his children the virtues of humility, kindness, and faithβ€”values that would shape the future archbishop.

Quiet and solemn yet gifted in his studies, young Nono graduated valedictorian from Calicuang Elementary School. At Mater Carmeli School in Iloilo, his faith was further nurtured by the Carmelite sisters, laying the foundation for a life that would be dedicated to God and His people.

He was initially interested in taking up Engineering, however, his faith and the call to priesthood proved stronger and louder. His β€œfiat” or yes to God’s call became a prelude to an extraordinary life of service to the will of God.

Firm in offering himself to the altar of the priesthood, he studied philosophy at St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary and was among the first graduates at St. Joseph Regional Seminary where he studied theology.

He was ordained on August 21, 1976, the 3rd anniversary of his father’s death, a heartfelt demonstration of his great love and admiration for his Tatay Ruperto.

Ad multos annos, Archbishop! πŸŽ‰

Today, on the First Saturday of August, the Church invites us to honor the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary with love, prayer, and reparation.

As we begin this new month, let us confidently entrust our lives to our Blessed Mother, asking her to lead us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Immaculate Heart of Mary,

To you we entrust this new month.

Watch over our families, protect us from every evil, strengthen our faith, and guide every decision we make.

Teach us to love Jesus more deeply, to remain faithful in times of joy and trial, and to live each day according to God's holy will.

May your Immaculate Heart be our refuge, our consolation, and our sure path to Christ.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us. Amen.

HAPPY PRIEST’S DAY! | The Feast of St. John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of priests, is celebrated every August 4. The Sunday closest to his feast is observed as St. John Mary Vianney Sundayβ€”a special occasion for the faithful to honor and pray for the priests who generously dedicate their lives to the service of God and His people.

As we celebrate this meaningful occasion, let us express our heartfelt gratitude to our dear priests for their faithful and selfless ministry.

May we continue to keep them in our prayers, asking the Lord to strengthen them in their vocation, fill them with the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and keep them always under the loving mantle and maternal protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May their lives remain joyful witnesses of Christ's love and faithful service to His Church.

β€”β€”β€”

Sundays in Ordinary Time precede the Feasts and Memorials of the Saints. Therefore, the Mass today will take the liturgy of the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

FEAST DAY OF ST. ALPHONSUS MA DE LIGUORI

On this feast day of St. Alphonsus, we are reminded that holiness is not about our own perfection, but about complete dependence on the Holy Redeemer.

Let us carry his wisdom in our hearts today: 'He who trusts himself is lost. He who trusts God can do all things.' Wherever you find yourself struggling todayβ€”whether with doubt, fear, or weaknessβ€”invoke the intercession of St. Alphonsus.

May his prayers strengthen your trust in God’s providence, and may you experience the peace that comes from abandoning yourself entirely to the One who can do all things.

Viva San Alfonso! Happy Feast Day Redemptorist-verse!
