The San Miguel Chapel came alive with joy and devotion as we celebrated the fiesta in honor of Sto. Niño last January 18 – the third Sunday of the month – when the whole of Cebu united in commemorating the feast of the Holy Child, Señor Sto. Niño. It was a day filled with prayers, thanksgiving, and togetherness, as the community gathered from all corners of the province and nearby areas to honor the Child Jesus who continues to guide and bless us.
The sacred day began with a solemn Holy Mass held at the San Miguel Chapel, where the priest led the faithful in heartfelt worship, reflecting on the profound significance of the Sto. Niño in our lives and the rich spiritual heritage he represents for Cebuanos. The air was thick with reverence as voices rose in unison as the sing the "bato balani sa gugma", and the chapel was adorned with colorful decorations, fresh flowers, and glowing candles that illuminated the faces of devotees young and old.
Immediately following the Mass, a grand and solemn foot procession commenced, joined by hundreds of devoted followers of the Sto. Niño, who walked with unwavering faith and devotion. In a beautiful display of reverence for both the Child Jesus and his mother, the procession was led by the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, her graceful figure carried high as a symbol of maternal love and protection. The beloved image of the Sto. Niño followed behind his mother, surrounded by devotees who carried candles, and chanted prayers as they made their way through the streets of the community. The procession route was lined with onlookers who waved, prayed, and offered their own blessings, creating a powerful atmosphere of unity and shared faith.
Through the vibrant celebration, we were reminded of the strength of our faith and the beauty of sharing this special moment with one another. Every aspect of the day – from the quiet moments of prayer inside the chapel to the lively, heartfelt procession through the streets – served as a testament to the deep connection that binds our community to the Sto. Niño and to each other. Viva Senyor Sto. Niño!
