Turn from evil and do good,; seek peace and pursue it.The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry, but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,to blot out their name from the earth.

Even as a child, she was drawn to prayer and silence, often seeking moments alone to speak with God. Her life did not begin with power or recognition, but with a quiet longing to belong completely to Christ.

Born in Siena on March 25, 1347, Saint Catherine of Siena came from a large family and was known for her joyful yet deeply spiritual personality. From an early age, she felt called to dedicate her life to God. While many expected her to marry, she chose another path, even cutting her hair to show that her heart was already promised to something greater. οΏΌ

As she entered adulthood, Catherine joined the Dominican Third Order and spent years in prayer, fasting, and reflection. During this period, she lived quietly, focusing on her relationship with God and learning to trust His voice. Over time, her peaceful wisdom began attracting people who came to her for advice, comfort, and spiritual guidance. οΏΌ

What made Saint Catherine of Siena stand out was not only her prayer life but also her courage to step into difficult situations. She wrote letters to leaders, spoke to powerful figures, and encouraged peace during times of conflict. Though she had little formal education, her words carried strength and conviction, influencing both political leaders and Church authorities. οΏΌ

As her influence grew, she became known for helping the poor, caring for the sick, and guiding those who struggled spiritually. She believed faith should not stay hidden but should move people toward love and action. Even when criticized or misunderstood, Catherine remained focused on serving others and staying faithful to God’s calling. οΏΌ

During the final years of her life, she worked tirelessly for unity within the Church, especially during the Great Schism when Christians were divided in loyalty to different popes. She spent her last years in Rome, praying and offering her suffering for peace and healing. Saint Catherine of Siena died in 1380 at the age of thirty-three, leaving behind writings, prayers, and a legacy of fearless faith. οΏΌ

Today, Saint Catherine of Siena is remembered as a mystic, writer, and Doctor of the Church. Her life speaks to anyone who has ever felt small yet called to do something meaningful. She showed that courage does not always come from position or status, but from a heart fully rooted in faith and love for God. οΏΌ

β€œSi Lord pa din ang pinakadabest na kakampi sa lahat.”

The priest’s words remind us that God is our strongest and most faithful ally in life. Unlike people who may fail or leave, the Lord remains constant and dependable. In every struggle or challenge, we can rely on His guidance and strength. This encourages us to deepen our faith and turn to Him in both good times and bad. In the end, having God as our greatest companion gives us courage, peace, and hope.

VIVA PIT SENYOR! | Today in history, the image of the Santo NiΓ±o de Cebu was found in the midst of a village engulfed in flames. It was on a Saturday, April 28, 1565, when a soldier of the armada named Juan de Camus discovered the image of the Santo NiΓ±o in β€œone of the poorer housesβ€”modest, humble, and small, with few utensils” (San Agustin 1998: 33, note 3), secured in a box β€œtied with Castilian sailing thread and a Castilian cord made of hemp.”

β€œFir the Body of God, I found the Son of the Holy Mary!”

Upon seeing the image, "Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, falling to his knees, venerated it, weeping copiously and displaying singular acts of devotion, accompanied by the religious with tender sobs of joy, as well by those of the armada – all confessing that God rewareded the devotion that the General had always had for His Holy Name and the ardent zeal with which they undertook the temporal conquest, because from it resulted spiritual good to a great multitude of souls." (San Agustin 1998)

The witnesses’ descriptions of the image of the Child Jesus agree on specific details as to the statue’s size, position of the hands, garment and other paraphernalia. This was what er read in Miguel Lopez de Legazpi’s account:

… an image of the Child Jesus… with his cap of flounced colored (red) velvet akin to those made in Flanders, and his valance shirt, with two fingers of his right hand raised as one who blessed and, on the left, holding a round ball (sic.) without a cross, with a small golden metal necklace on the neck. (San Agustin 1998:341, note 3).

As one faithful community, let us solemnly remember the providential discovery of the image of the Santo NiΓ±o, the enduring wellspring of faith in the Philippines.
