HOMILY | Memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church
Gospel: John 19:25โ€“34
Today we celebrate the Memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church. The title itself is beautiful. Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus. The Lord Himself gave her to us as our Mother.
In todayโ€™s Gospel, we are brought to Calvary. Jesus is hanging on the Cross. He is suffering. He is breathing His last. And among those who remained there was Mary. Many had left. Many became afraid. But Mary stayed.
Then Jesus looked at His Mother and at the beloved disciple and said: โ€œWoman, behold your sonโ€ฆ Behold your mother.โ€
At first glance, it may seem that Jesus was simply making arrangements for Mary before He died. But the Church understands these words more deeply. Jesus was not only entrusting Mary to John. Jesus was entrusting Mary to every disciple. John represents all of us.
And notice what happens next. The Gospel says: โ€œAnd from that hour the disciple took her into his homeโ€ (John 19:27). That line is very important. Jesus did not only say, โ€œBehold your mother.โ€ The disciple also welcomed Mary into his home.
This tells us something beautiful: Jesus desires that every disciple make room for Mary in his life and in his home. Not because Mary replaces Jesus. But because Mary always brings us closer to Jesus.
To welcome Mary into our homes means more than placing a statue in the living room. It means allowing her example to shape our family life.
A home that welcomes Mary becomes a home where people pray together. A home that welcomes Mary becomes gentler in speech and quicker to forgive. A home that welcomes Mary learns to remain faithful even in difficult times.
Many of us have images of Our Lady in our homesโ€”but perhaps the question today is: Does Mary only have a place on our wall, or does she also have a place in our hearts?
1. A mother stays.
Mary did not run away from the Cross. She stayed even when she did not fully understand.
Many people remain faithful when life is easy, but become distant from God when suffering comes.
Mary teaches us: love remains.
Some parents continue sacrificing for children who do not always appreciate them. Some spouses remain faithful despite difficulties. Some quietly carry sickness, disappointments, or loneliness.
Mary reminds us: staying can also be an act of love.
2. A mother gathers.
At the foot of the Cross, Jesus begins forming a new family.
The Church is not built only by structures or programs. The Church becomes alive when people care for one another.
Today many people are connected online but feel alone inside. Many houses are complete, but homes are broken.
Mary continues gathering us back to Jesus and to one another.
Perhaps one of the greatest services we can offer is simple: be people who unite rather than divide, accompany rather than judge.
3. A mother leads us to Christ.
Mary never keeps attention for herself. Her whole life says: โ€œDo whatever He tells youโ€ (John 2:5).
True devotion to Mary always leads us to Jesus. If after praying the Rosary we become kinder, more forgiving, more faithfulโ€”then Mary is truly guiding us.
My dear brothers and sisters,
Today, let us ask ourselves: Have I welcomed Mary into my home?
Not only into my house, but into my decisions, my family life, my struggles, and my journey of faith.
Because Jesus Himself gave us His Mother. And a mother never abandons her children.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. Amen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CATHOLIC CHURCH!

Pentecost Sunday marks the birth of the Church, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles gathered in prayer, as described in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1โ€“4). Strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, they were transformed from fearful disciples into bold witnesses of the Gospel, sent forth to proclaim Christ to all nations.

This sacred event reveals the Church as both divine gift and living missionโ€”united in faith, enlivened by grace, and continually guided by the Spirit in truth and charity. Pentecost thus remains not only a historical moment, but a present reality in the life of the Church.

The Holy Spirit does not come empty-handed. He brings gifts that strengthen, enlighten and transform the Christian life. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are not abstract ideas, but graces that help us become more docile to Godโ€™s will and more faithful witnesses of the Gospel.

The 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit:

1๏ธโƒฃ Wisdom
Helps us see life through Godโ€™s eyes and value what leads us to Him.

2๏ธโƒฃ Understanding
Helps us grasp the truths of the faith more deeply and allow Godโ€™s Word to enter our hearts.

3๏ธโƒฃ Counsel
Guides us in our choices and helps us distinguish good from evil, especially in difficult moments.

4๏ธโƒฃ Fortitude
Gives us courage, perseverance and strength to remain faithful in trials.

5๏ธโƒฃ Knowledge
Helps us recognize Godโ€™s presence in creation, in our lives and in His plan for us.

6๏ธโƒฃ Piety
Opens our hearts to love God as Father and to live with charity toward others.

7๏ธโƒฃ Fear of the Lord
Is not terror, but reverence, trust and the desire not to turn away from God.

When we open our hearts to these gifts, the Holy Spirit renews us from within and helps us live as true disciples of Christ.

Come, Holy Spirit.
Fill our hearts and guide us on the path to Heaven. ๐Ÿ™

TODAYโ€™s GMRC | Use Your Gifts For Others, Not For Yourself.

One of the beautiful messages of Pentecost is this: the Holy Spirit gives gifts, but never for selfish purposes.

When the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles, He did not give them gifts so they would become famous, admired, or powerful. He gave them gifts so they could preach, heal, serve, unite, and bring people closer to Christ.

The same is true for us.

Your intelligence is not only for your success. Your voice is not only for your own recognition. Your leadership is not only for your advantage. Your time, talents, resources, and influence are gifts entrusted to you for the good of others.

A gift that is hidden becomes wasted. A gift used only for oneself becomes empty. But a gift offered in love becomes ministry.

Ask yourself today: Who is becoming better because of the gifts God gave me?

Saint Peter reminds us: โ€œAs each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of Godโ€™s varied graceโ€ (1 Peter 4:10).

The Holy Spirit does not fill us so that we become bigger. The Holy Spirit fills us so that our hearts become wider.

Use your gifts for others, not for yourself. That is the fire of Pentecost.
