The Feast of the Nativity of Mary, celebrated every September 8, commemorates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. This special feast reminds Christians of God’s loving plan of salvation and the important role Mary was chosen to fulfill. From her birth, Mary’s life would become a beautiful example of faith, humility, obedience, and complete trust in God.

As we celebrate the Nativity of Mary, we are invited to follow her example by opening our hearts to God and responding to His call with love and faith. While the canonical New Testament does not record her birth, Christian tradition—rooted in the 2nd-century apocryphal Protoevangelium of James—holds that her parents were Saint Joachim and Saint Anne. According to tradition, the couple was elderly and had long struggled with childlessness until an angel announced they would conceive a child destined for a unique role in salvation history. The date of September 8 marks exactly nine months after the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 and corresponds to the dedication of the 5th-century Basilica of Saint Anne in Jerusalem, built over her traditional birthplace.
​Theologically, Mary's birth is venerated as the "dawn of salvation," signaling the preparation for the coming of Christ. As one of only three births celebrated on the liturgical calendar—alongside Jesus and Saint John the Baptist—it holds major feast status across the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican traditions. The Technical Disaster: When Muggeridge and his crew went to film inside Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying (Kalighat) in Calcutta, they faced an extremely dark, dim interior. The cameraman, Ken Macmillan, insisted they couldn't shoot because they lacked artificial lighting equipment, arguing the footage would be completely pitch-black and unusable.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, was a Catholic nun and missionary who devoted her life to serving the poor, sick, and abandoned. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, in 1950. Through her humble service, compassion, and deep faith, she cared for people who were often forgotten by society. Her dedication to helping others earned her worldwide recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

Mother Teresa is remembered as a symbol of love, kindness, compassion, and selfless service. She encouraged people to help others through even the smallest acts of love and kindness. She died on September 5, 1997, and the Catholic Church celebrates her feast day every September 5. She was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta by Pope Francis in 2016. Her life continues to inspire people around the world to serve others, especially those who are poor and in need.
