MARIAN FEAST | QUEENSHIP OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

The Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated every year on August 22. It takes place eight days after the Solemnity of the Assumption to show that Mary was crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth after being taken up into heaven.

It honors Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. It signifies her unique participation in Christ’s redemptive work, her role as the spiritual mother of all believers, and her exalted status following her assumption into glory. Established by Pope Pius XII in 1954 through the encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, the feast is celebrated annually on August 22, right after the Solemnity of the Assumption.
