12 For the word of God is alive and active.

Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Theme:
Watchfulness: A Christian Duty
(Pagbantay: Usa ka Katungdanan sa Kristohanon)

Every believer is commanded to live spiritually alert and ready for the return of Christ.

Text Verses:
Mateo 24:42 RCPV
[42] Busa pagbantay kamo kay wala kamo masayod kon unsang adlawa moanhi ang inyong Ginoo.

Introduction:
Many Christians are awake physically but asleep spiritually. Jesus warned His disciples to “watch” because danger, deception, and His sudden return make watchfulness a serious duty.

Proposition:
Every true believer must live in spiritual watchfulness while waiting for Christ’s return.

Interrogation:
Why is watchfulness a duty for every Christian, and how should we practice it?

Key Word:
Watch – Bantay

Transcendence:
Watchfulness protects the believer from sin, deception, and spiritual failure while preparing him for Christ’s coming.

Body
I. We Must Watch Our Spiritual Condition
Kinahanglan Nato Bantayan ang Atong Espirituhanong Kahimtangan

Proverbs 4:23;
1 Corinthians 10:12

>Guard the heart
>Likayi ang espirituhanong kahuyang
>Be humble and repentant

II. We Must Watch Against the Enemy
Kinahanglan Nato Bantayan Batok sa Kaaway

1 Peter 5:8;
Ephesians 6:11

>Satan is active
>Temptation is real
>Put on the armor of God

III. We Must Watch for the Lord’s Return
Kinahanglan Nato Bantayan ang Pagbalik sa Ginoo

Matthew 24:42;
Luke 12:35–36

>Christ will come unexpectedly
>Faithful servants stay ready
>Live with expectancy

Application:
>Examine your heart daily
>Stay faithful in prayer and the Word
>Serve as if Jesus may come today

Conclusion:
Watchfulness is not fear—it is faithful obedience. A watchful believer is a prepared believer.
Ang pagbantay dili kahadlok, kundili matinud-anong pagtuman. Ang magtutuo nga nagabantay mao ang magtutuo nga andam.
“Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” – Matthew 24:42
“Busa magbantay kamo, kay wala ninyo mahibaloi ang takna sa pag-abot sa inyong Ginoo.”

The Gift of Salvation

Text Verses:
Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 6:23; Titus 3:5

Introduction:
People strive to earn acceptance, recognition, and favor through their own efforts. But when it comes to eternal life, no human work is enough. Salvation is not a reward—it is God’s greatest gift, freely offered through Jesus Christ. This sermon explores the nature, meaning, and purpose of the gift of salvation.

Proposition:
Salvation is a gracious gift from God that must be received through faith in Jesus Christ.

Interrogation (Question):
What makes salvation the greatest gift God has given to humanity?

Key Word:
Reasons

Transcendence:
Understanding the reasons why salvation is God’s greatest gift helps us appreciate His grace, trust His promise, and live transformed lives.

Body:

1. Salvation Is a Gift of God’s Grace
Ephesians 2:8–9
Not earned by works or human righteousness.
Rooted in God’s unmerited favor.
Grace means God gives us what we don’t deserve—full forgiveness and acceptance.
Removes all boasting; salvation exalts God, not man.

2. Salvation Is Given Through Christ’s Sacrifice
Romans 5:8; 1 Peter 3:18
The gift is free to us but costly to Christ.
Jesus paid the full penalty of sin by His death.
Salvation is God’s ultimate expression of love.
Christ bridges the gap between sinful man and holy God.

3. Salvation Produces Eternal and Present Transformation
Romans 6:23; 2 Corinthians 5:17
Gives the believer eternal life, not temporary relief.
Brings new birth, a new identity, and the indwelling Spirit.
Freedom from the power and penalty of sin.
Begins a lifelong journey of sanctification.

Application:

Receive God’s gift by faith alone, not relying on your own goodness.
Live daily in gratitude—worship, obedience, and service flow from grace received.
Share this gift with others who have not yet heard or believed.
Let the reality of salvation shape your decisions, values, and priorities.

Conclusion:

Salvation is the greatest gift ever offered to mankind—freely given, fully paid, and eternally secure. It is God’s grace revealed in Christ and received through faith. Let us treasure this gift, walk in its power, and proclaim its message to a world in need.

The Enemies of the Soul

Text Verse:

📖 1 Peter 2:11 — “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.”

---

Introduction:

Every soul is of eternal worth to God. Jesus said, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).
Yet, from the beginning of time, the soul has been under constant attack — from within, from without, and from the powers of darkness. These enemies aim to destroy our fellowship with God and our eternal destiny.

We must therefore recognize our enemies, resist them, and renew our souls daily in the power of God.

---

Proposition:

To preserve the purity and safety of our souls, we must identify and resist the three chief enemies that war against it.

---

Interrogation:

Who are these enemies of the soul, and how can we overcome them?

---

Key Word:

Enemies

---

Transcendence:

These enemies do not attack openly. They are subtle, spiritual, and persistent — working through desires, influences, and temptations. The Christian’s victory depends on constant watchfulness and dependence upon God.

---

Body / Main Points:

---

I. The Flesh – The Enemy Within

📖 Romans 8:7–8; Galatians 5:17; James 1:14–15

A. The Nature of the Flesh

The “flesh” refers not to our physical body but to the fallen, sinful nature inherited from Adam (Romans 7:18).

It craves what is contrary to God — comfort, pleasure, and self-gratification.

Paul calls it “enmity against God.”

B. The Works of the Flesh

Galatians 5:19–21 lists them: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, idolatry, hatred, envy, drunkenness, etc.

These are destructive to the soul, separating us from God’s holiness.

C. The Warfare of the Flesh

The flesh wars against the Spirit (Galatians 5:17).

Even believers feel this inner struggle between godly desire and sinful impulse.

D. The Way to Victory

1. Crucify the flesh — “They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh” (Galatians 5:24).

2. Walk in the Spirit — Depend daily on the Holy Spirit for strength (Galatians 5:16).

3. Discipline the body — Keep the passions under control through prayer, fasting, and obedience (1 Corinthians 9:27).

💡 Illustration: A soldier cannot defeat the enemy outside if he’s being betrayed by one inside the camp. So must we subdue the inner rebel — the flesh.

---

II. The World – The Enemy Around Us

📖 1 John 2:15–17; James 4:4; Romans 12:2

A. The Meaning of “World”

Not the physical earth, but the world system organized without God — with its values, ambitions, and pleasures that oppose His will.

B. The Deceptive Appeal of the World

1 John 2:16 describes it in three forms:

1. The lust of the flesh – desire for pleasure.

2. The lust of the eyes – desire for possessions.

3. The pride of life – desire for power and recognition.

These same tactics deceived Eve in Eden and tempted Jesus in the wilderness.

C. The Danger of Loving the World

Friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4).

The more we love the world, the colder our love for Christ becomes.

D. The Way to Victory

1. Renew your mind (Romans 12:2) — Think God’s thoughts, not the world’s.

2. Separate from worldly practices (2 Corinthians 6:17) — Live as pilgrims, not settlers.

3. Lay up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19–21) — Value eternal things over temporary gains.

💡 Illustration: A ship is safe in the water, but if water gets into the ship, it sinks. Likewise, a Christian is safe in the world, but when the world gets into the Christian, the soul is in danger.

---

III. The Devil – The Enemy Against Us

📖 1 Peter 5:8–9; Ephesians 6:10–12; John 10:10

A. The Personality of the Devil

He is real, not symbolic — a fallen angel who opposes God and His people (Isaiah 14:12–15).

Jesus called him “a murderer from the beginning” and “the father of lies” (John 8:44).

B. The Purpose of the Devil

To steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

To blind the minds of unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:4).

To tempt believers into sin and discouragement (1 Thessalonians 3:5).

C. The Methods of the Devil

1. Deception – Twisting God’s Word, as in Eden (Genesis 3:1–5).

2. Accusation – Condemning the believer (Revelation 12:10).

3. Temptation – Drawing us away from God’s path (Matthew 4:1–11).

4. Oppression – Using fear, doubt, and guilt to weaken faith.

D. The Way to Victory

1. Be alert and watchful (1 Peter 5:8).

2. Resist steadfast in the faith (1 Peter 5:9).

3. Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10–18).

4. Stand upon the Word of God — Jesus overcame by saying, “It is written.”

💡 Illustration: The devil is like a roaring lion — dangerous, but restrained by God’s leash. Stay close to the Shepherd, and the lion cannot touch you.

---

Application:

Every day, your soul is in the middle of a battlefield — between the flesh, the world, and the devil.

You cannot fight them in your own strength; only through Christ can you overcome.

Guard your soul diligently: through prayer, Scripture, and fellowship with God’s people.

Remember: salvation secures the soul, but sanctification protects it daily.

---

Conclusion:

The enemies of the soul are fierce, but the grace of God is greater.
Let us be vigilant and steadfast, keeping our souls anchored in Christ.
