Black Saturday. The day Jesus descended to the world of the dead. And of all the deaths that happened during the crucifixion the thief's death was the only one that was synchronized with Christ's. They died together. The Fathers were waiting for centuries in the Limbo when Jesus arrived. But the thief waited for hours maybe then descended with Him. Like a VIP es**rt. This reminds us that grace doesn't reward the longest wait or the cleanest record. It rewards the honest heart. The thief is God's final argument against self-righteousness placed deliberately, on the same day, on the same hill, as the ultimate proof, to remind us that, salvation is not earned. It is received.

When Jesus said "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" He is telling him, of all the ways you could have done this, you chose this one? Holy Thursday reminds us that it's not the betrayal that hurts most when it comes from someone close to us, but that love doesn't retract itself even when it's been weaponized. The kiss was hollow; Jesus was aware and He continued to be what Judas pretended to greet. He met the abuse of intimacy with intimacy still extended. This is not a weakness. Jesus is telling us here that this is the most radical thing in the Gospel.

The blind man in today's Gospel mirrors what St. John of the Cross describes in the Dark Night. The soul doesn't arrive at union in one moment. It is a journey. It passes through stages: purgation, illumination, and union. When the blind man was expelled from the synagogue this was a "Purgation". Then he defends the truth even under pressure this is where "Illumination" takes place. Finally when he confessed "Lord, I believe" and he worships this can be seen as the "Union" with God. The darkness he endured was not despite his journey to faith. It was the path of it. Just as the Ascent teaches: the soul must be emptied before it can be filled. The man didn't find Jesus — Jesus came back for him. That detail is everything. Grace always precedes the final act of faith. Everything is grace. 🙏

Thomas Aquinas uses the circular imagery to describe the nature of God His (perfection, no beginning or end, lacking in nothing). But Gregory of Nyssa one of my favorite Early Church Fathers, wrote something about perpetual ascent, according to him encounter with the divine creates capacity for even greater intimacy. This could mean that the mystery itself is an ever-unfolding spiral, not a circular movement. This does not mean that there are two opposing truths but they complement each other perfectly. The very perfection and infinity of God's circular nature is precisely what generates the spiral dynamic in our relationship with the divine. In heaven, our knowledge of God does not end or cease but becomes both perfected in clarity and infinite in its deepening.

When we trade the fear of God for the fear of being judged by people around us this will create sin of presumption, the favorite sin of our age. We often mistake conformity to current opinion for moral adequacy. The people of this age are diagnosed with "ESCHATOLOGICAL AMNESIA", which makes presumption the sin of choice.

I wanna be remembered for courage for my faith that would be the most important thing. The most important thing is my faith in my life.

It's funny how Protestants criticize Catholic feasts of All the Saints and even Christmas, yet they live every day by the Catholic Church’s calendar. Your days, months and years are rooted in Catholic history. We all live by a rhythm of time shaped by the Catholic Church. 🤷

This story comes to mind the life of corrupt government officials living in comfort and luxury, untouched by hardship. Their lives may look enviable, but in truth, such ease and comfort can be a sign of danger.

While traveling, St. Ambrose stopped at a house whose master proudly said he had never known suffering. Enlightened by heavenly wisdom, the holy bishop replied:

"This house, treated so mildly, is near its ruin. Let us leave, for the anger of God is about to fall upon it."

No sooner had he gone outside than lightning struck, destroying the house and all who were within.

The meaning here is clear: suffering is not a curse, but a sign that a soul is dear to God. For the Lord chastises those He loves, to draw them closer to Him. True blessing is not a life free of trials, but a soul refined by God’s love.

Trivia: Did you know that Jesus died at 33 years old, and St. Augustine saw deep meaning in this?

According to him:
1️⃣ Symbol of Life & Perfection: 33 (3 × 11) reflects the Trinity and divine completeness.
2️⃣ Maturity & Fullness: Jesus lived a full human life, perfectly accomplishing His mission.
3️⃣ Connection to Redemption: His age marked the perfect time to fulfill God’s plan and redeem humanity.

Even numbers in Scripture, St. Augustine reminds us, carry divine wisdom!
