‎Faith Beyond the Challenges: Sister Sheena Edillo's Steadfast Testimony

‎Born with a physical disability that requires her to use a crutch, she faithfully attends church and serves not only as a Primary Valiant teacher but also as a Ward Missionary, sharing the gospel with joy and dedication. For her, worship and service are not about convenience but about drawing closer to the Savior and helping others come unto Him.

‎"What keeps me going to church is the love of our Savior Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. Even with my trials, I feel stronger whenever I am at church."

‎In both her teaching and missionary work, she finds strength in the Lord’s promise found in Ether 12:27, trusting that through Christ, weaknesses can become strengths.

‎"Every time I come to church, Heavenly Father strengthens me. I cannot do it alone, so I draw closer to Him."

‎As a ward missionary, she also finds joy in sharing the gospel message with others, inviting them to experience the same peace and strength she receives through worship and covenant keeping. Her quiet efforts reflect a deep love for the Savior and for those she serves.

‎Her life shows that faith does not remove challenges but gives strength to endure them. Through her service in the Primary and as a ward missionary, she blesses both children and individuals she teaches, inspiring others with her steady example of discipleship.

‎"No matter what we are going through, let us not stop coming to church. We do not have to be perfect: Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father are there to receive us."

‎Her testimony reminds others that true strength comes from faith in Jesus Christ. Through steady devotion, teaching, and missionary service, she shows that no faithful step is ever taken alone.

Note:

Institute classes will commence on the second week of August 2026.

Finding Strength in Every Trial: A Father's Faith Through Life's Challenges

| For Brother Eugene Urmatan, faith has become the foundation that carries his family through life's most difficult moments.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the past 10 years, Brother Urmatan has experienced trials that tested both his strength and his faith.

In 2018, his wife, Claire, and their unborn child nearly lost their lives because of serious pregnancy complications. During that same year, their firstborn son was diagnosed with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (Level 3).

As a husband and father, these experiences could have led him to ask, "Why us?" but instead, he chose a different path.

"As the priesthood holder in our family, I never asked God, “Why us?” Instead, I prayed for strength and wisdom to accept our trials and learn from them."

Through those difficult experiences, Brother Urmatan and his family have come to recognize the Lord's hand in their lives. While their challenges continue, so does their commitment to worship and serve God each week.

"Despite the lifelong challenges we face, we continue to attend church because it brings us peace, hope, and strength, and it helps us draw closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ."

His testimony reflects a quiet confidence that trials are not signs of God's absence but opportunities to experience His sustaining power. He believes that every challenge can strengthen faith when placed in the Savior's hands.

Brother Urmatan often remembers the teaching found in 1 Nephi 3:7, where the Lord promises to “prepare a way” for His children to accomplish what He asks of them.

"I believe God will never allow us to face challenges without providing the strength and guidance we need to overcome them. When our faith is real, He strengthens us through every trial."

He acknowledges that God's help may not always come in expected ways but he has learned that the Lord comforts and blesses His children according to their individual needs and understanding.

When asked what message he would like to share with fellow members of the Church, his invitation was both hopeful and reassuring.

"Life is not always a bed of roses. We all face trials and challenges but these experiences help us grow and strengthen our faith as children of God. One of the best ways to feel God's presence and love is by attending church every Sunday, partaking of the sacrament, and renewing our covenants."

He concluded with a simple but powerful testimony:

"Trust in God because He is always mindful of us. He knows our needs, and He will never leave us alone."

Brother Urmatan's story reminds us that faithful discipleship is often lived quietly within the walls of our homes through prayers offered in moments of uncertainty, covenants kept despite life's burdens, and families who choose to trust God one day at a time.

His example teaches that while trials may shape our journey, they do not define our faith. As we continue to come unto Jesus Christ, He provides the peace, strength, and hope we need to move forward together.

Note: Brother Eugene Urmatan, Jr. and his family belong to the Cauayan 3rd Ward.

When Nehemiah’s people were rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall, some grew weary and said,”the strength of the bearers of burden is decayed” (Nehemiah 4:10) even while working with others who could not tell how tried and tested they have all become.

We don’t always see what someone is carrying. A little patience, a little kindness…it might be exactly the rest someone needs to keep going.

Faith Forward Pondering: Who in your life might be quietly carrying a burden and what is one small kindness you could offer them?
