Burning of Old Palms

In preparation for Ash Wednesday, the faithful gather for the reverent burning of old blessed palms—an act that transforms last year’s symbols of praise into ashes of repentance, humility, and renewal. These ashes will be used in the sacred rite that marks the beginning of the Lenten journey.

This solemn observance will be followed by the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Jose Sumayop Jr., as we come together in prayer, reflection, and commitment to conversion of heart.

Yesterday, January 31, 2026, the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Mission Center celebrated the Encantado Festival in honor of Senyor Santo Niño, the Child Jesus, who symbolizes humility, innocence, and God’s closeness to the people and is widely venerated in the Philippines. The event began with a Holy Mass, followed by a procession. Despite the rain, the people continued the procession with faith and enthusiasm, clearly showing their unwavering devotion to the Child Jesus.

After the procession, a local competition was held, in which the Altar Servers Ministry participated as the Dominico Tribe, inspired by their patron saint, St. Dominic Savio. Through their performance, the altar servers showed that their ministry is not only about serving at the altar with reverence, but also about expressing their service in joyful and meaningful ways—including serving through dance as a form of praise, unity, and devotion to the Santo Niño.

VIVA! PIT SENYOR!

Today we celebrate the feast of Señor Sto. Niño, the Holy Child Jesus, the oldest and most beloved Christian image in the Philippines. The Sto. Niño reminds us of God’s humble love shown in the innocence and simplicity of a child.

This devotion began in 1521 when the image was given to Queen Juana by Ferdinand Magellan, marking the beginning of Christianity in our country. Since then, Filipinos have honored the Sto. Niño as a symbol of hope, trust, and God’s abiding presence in our lives.

As we celebrate, we are called to renew our childlike faith, to trust in God completely, and to live with humility, joy, and obedience to His will. The Sto. Niño teaches us that true greatness is found in love and simplicity.

Encantado Festival 2026 | Little Sto. Niño
The OMPH Mission Center, Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman, Northern Samar invites all young devotees to take part in the Encantado Festival 2026, a joyful celebration in honor of the Sto. Niño. Open to children 12 years old and below, this event highlights faith, devotion, and Filipino Christian culture.

Registration Fee: ₱1,000.00 (inclusive of T-shirt and sash)
Registration Deadline: January 26, 2026
Feast Day: January 31, 2026

The Our Mother of Perpetual Help Mission Center in Dalakit celebrated the Feast of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno last night, January 8, 2026. After the Mass, a procession commenced right away, embodying the strong community spirit and devotion to Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno. The celebration was led by Engr. Christian Emanuel Ferdinand and Mrs. Cristina Vasquez the Hermano and Hermana Mayor 2026.
