Grace Is Not Cheap
Ang totoo, grace is free, but it was never cheap. It cost Jesus everything. His blood. His dignity. His life.
Cheap grace is grace na tinatanggap natin without repentance, without obedience, and without real change sa buhay natin. Itâs the kind of grace na ginagamit lang para ma-ease ang guilt, pero walang tunay na pagsuko sa Diyos. Itâs grace without the crossâwalang sacrifice, walang dying to self at without Christ as Lordâgusto natin ng Savior, pero ayaw natin ng Master.
Ganito ang sinabi ni Paul in Romans 6:1â2 âShall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not!â
Paul was confronting the mindset that abused grace, âPwede na tayong magkasala, kasi mapagpatawad naman si God.â But that is not grace. That is deception.
CHEAP GRACE LOOKS LIKE THIS:
1. Grace without repentance.
Minsan ang mindset natin ay ganito: âAlam kong mali, pero andyan naman si Lord to forgive.â We treat grace like a safety net for our sins, thinking na okay lang magkamali basta mag-sorry after. Godâs grace not only forgives, it cleanses and gives us power to live differently.
2. Grace without obedience.
Sabi ni Jesus sa Luke 9:23, âIf anyone wants to follow Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.â Following Christ is not about convenience, itâs about surrender. Cheap grace says, âIâll follow Jesus when itâs comfortable,â kapag walang nasasakripisyo, kapag swak sa gusto natin. Pero costly grace declares, âEven if it costs me friends, habits, dreamsâIâll follow Christ.â Itâs not just about commitment; itâs about full surrenderâlaying down our rights, plans, and comforts at the feet of Jesus.
3. Grace without holiness.
Sabi sa Titus 2:11â12, âThe grace of God has appeared⌠teaching us to say NO to ungodliness.â Hindi lang basta grace to forgive, kundi grace that teaches and trains us to live a godly life. Kaya kung totoo at buhay ang grace saâyo, you will grow in holiness. It will shape your desires, discipline your heart, and lead you to live differently. Pero ang cheap grace allows you to stay immatureâstuck sa old habits, shallow sa faith, and unchanged for years. Costly grace, on the other hand, pushes you to grow, stretch, obey, and mature even when itâs uncomfortable. Kaya tanong: May progress ba sa spiritual life mo?
THE COST OF TRUE GRACE
Grace is free. It may be free to us, but it cost Jesus everything. It cost Him His blood, His life, His dignityâHis everything. Sabi sa 1 Peter 1:18â19, âYou were bought with the precious blood of Christ.â Kaya huwag nating gawing ordinaryo ang isang bagay na napakamahal sa Diyos. The cross is not just the place where you were forgivenâitâs the place where your old self was crucified. Grace doesnât just wipe your pastâit demands the death of your old life so you can live a new one in Christ.
ARE YOU ABUSING GODâS GRACE?
Letâs be honest: Are we truly following Jesus or are we just using Him? Minsan madali nating sabihin, âJesus is my Savior,â pero ayaw nating tanggapin na âJesus is Lordâ sa ating mga choices, relationships, time, and lifestyle. We want His help, but not His rule.
Grace does not exist to make sin safe. Grace exists to make holiness possible. A grace that never convicts, never transforms, never costs you anything⌠is not the grace that came from the cross.
KAYA ANO ANG DAPAT MONG GAWIN?
Ngayong naintindihan natin ang difference between cheap grace and costly grace, hindi natin pwedeng balewalain ito. Grace is not just a truth to believe, itâs a calling to live by. Kaya here are three simple but powerful steps na pwede mong gawin starting today:
1. Mag-evaluate
Where in your life are you treating grace as a license? Maybe itâs a secret sin, a compromise, or a pattern na alam mong mali pero tinotolerate mo kasi iniisip mong âGod will understand.â Remember, grace is not a license to sin, itâs the power to overcome it.
2. Magbago
What sin do you need to repent from genuinely today? Hindi sapat ang pag-amin lang. Repentance is not just saying sorry, itâs turning away from sin and turning to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Confess what needs to be confessed, and decide to walk away from anything that dishonors Jesus. Costly grace requires surrender, not just apologies.
3. Magpatuloy
How can you walk in costly grace and real obedience this week? Donât stop at just knowing or feeling convicted, live it out every day. Choose to obey God even when itâs inconvenient. Be intentional in growingâread the Word, pray, stay connected to your spiritual family, and say no to sin even when no one is watching. Costly grace calls us to a lifestyle of daily surrender not just a one-time decision, but a consistent walk with Christ.
Donât just claim to be saved, let your life show that you are truly surrendered. Tandaan mo, grace is not cheapâso donât live cheaply. Live in a way that honors the price Jesus paid.
