Juicy Gossip
Spreading lies about someone is a sin! No sugar coating, no glossing over the factsâthere will be no gossipers in heaven. In Leviticus 19:16, Godâs command is very clear, â'You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people, and you are not to act against the life of your neighbor; I am the LORD.â Spreading rumors, misinformation, or unconfirmed facts has been used since Bible times as a weapon to destroy your enemies. Itâs the first thing people do when they get angry with someone because they want to tear down that personâs reputation to all who will listen. And social media has made spreading lies happen at an astonishing speed! Getting even by gossiping might momentarily give you a morbid sense of pleasure but that evil satisfaction quickly disintegrates and is replaced with guilt and bitterness. Itâs that horrible feeling when sin separates you from God! Pure and simple, destroying the reputations of others will destroy your own relationship with your heavenly Father! And there is nothing that is worth that! Words you speak have the ability to either tear someone downâor lift someone up! Anytime you talk bad about someone, spread juicy gossip about them, or manipulate the minds of others by planting false ideas or exaggerated facts, it is a sin. And whether you are the one who is spreading the gossip or the one listening, it is sin! The Bible says in Proverbs 20:19 not to even associate with someone who gossips! And Exodus 23:1 says, "You shall not bear a false report; do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.â Determine in your heart to always speak kindly of others and when someone starts to tell you some juicy gossip, walk away! Pray this prayer in Psalm 141:3, âSet a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.â Text: Psalm 34:13, Ephesians 4:29, James 4:11, James 1:26
