After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing.
(Luke 5:4 to 6)

-When Jesus said to Simon "Put out into DEEP WATER and lower your nets for a catch."
"the Deep" reminds us of our peripheries, fears and uncomfortable places. When fishermen cast their nets into a shallow portion of the sea, there are no danger, they feel safe, "Mababaw lang kasi" but they might only catch fewer fishes.

But when fishermen go into a deeper portion of the sea, they might catch more fishes pero nakakatakot, "Malalim".

This is also our call, that Jesus is telling us to PUT OUT INTO DEEP WATER so that we can catch more fishes, it maybe uncomfortable but believe that Jesus is with us as we go beyond our peripheries.

"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
-Matthew 16:24

In today's gospel, reminds us of our perspective in following Jesus. DENY HIMSELF - First, Humility - like John the Baptist, being lesser so that Jesus will be greater. Setting aside our own desire and amplifying Jesus. Service should not be to showcase our talents for our own greatness but to show how great Jesus is.

TAKE UP HIS CROSS AND FOLLOW ME - Second, when we follow Christ, we will be rejected and at times, we will be persecuted.. In Matthew 10:22: "You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved." and also in John 15:18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.. Suffering in following Christ is inevitable, but this reminds us to TAKE UP HIS CROSS, embracing our cross and follow Him. Like the CROSS, there is DEATH but remember that what came after DEATH is GLORY - RESURRECTION.

Regardless of our circumstances or "PINAG-DADAANAN", we should serve Him.. We should love Him... Because serving and loving Jesus should be unconditional. It is easier to serve Jesus when things are doing well, but what if things are difficult?

Embrace our cross and follow Jesus - embrace our sufferings believe that you are NOT alone and Jesus will work on these sufferings.

Have a blessed Sunday brothers and sisters.
