Each time we receive the Holy Communion, the priest or the minister tells us that what we receive at Mass is โthe Body of Christ,โ to which we respond, โAmen.โ We should know that during that brief moment of response, it must be clear in our mind and heart that what we indeed receive is the REAL BODY OF CHRISTโand not just a mere symbol.
In John 6:51, we see Jesus declaring: โI am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.โ
This discourse caused the Jews to argue themselves, but Jesus, in reply, did not tell them that He was just talking figuratively. Instead, He said, โVery truly I tell you, unless ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ณ๐น๐ฒ๐๐ต ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ธ ๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ, ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ป๐ผ ๐น๐ถ๐ณ๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them (John 6: 53-56).โ This Bible passage clearly speaks of the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
During the Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples while holding a piece of bread and a cup of wine: โ๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐บ๐ ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฑ๐, ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ถ๐ ๐ด๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐. Do this in remembrance of me.โ And likewise, the cup after they had eaten, saying, โ๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ฐ๐๐ฝ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐บ๐ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ (Luke 22:19-20); hence, the reason why the Church celebrates the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
The Sacred Scripture is clear: The BREAD AND WINE we offer at mass becomes the real BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST during the consecration. You should keep that in mind next time you attend mass.
