Every Apostle reflects Christ in a different way. Elder Gary E. Stevenson’s example shines through his message of joy, gratitude, and steady discipleship. How does knowing more about his life strengthen your own faith?

A patriarchal blessing is an expression of Heavenly Father’s love for each of His children. It is evidence that He knows us personally. When you prayerfully study your patriarchal blessing, you will sense that your Heavenly Father is mindful of you and has a divine plan for your happiness. Receiving a patriarchal blessing is a precious gift.

In the Philippines some young couples save money all their lives and go into excessive debt to provide a glamorous wedding celebration.

They prolong their engagements to accumulate money and end up paying wedding expenses for years after they marry. All this limits and prevents the creation of celestial families.

During our service in the Philippines, Elder Oaks counseled young couples and their families to abandon the practice of extravagant wedding celebrations and invite only family and a few close friends.

More than one couple with limited means went into the Church distribution center in Manila to purchase a simple CTR ring before they were married in the temple.

They concentrated on the eternal union, not on a one-day blowout celebration with expensive, superfluous bangles and bling.

These Filipino couples will have a greater chance of happiness in marriage as they focus on each other and on their covenants rather than on trying to impress people through expensive overindulgence.

In addition, they have a greater chance for financial security because they are expressing the values of the Lord in their financial dealings - staying out of debt, building Zion in their homeland, and saving money for future needs. — Kristen M. Oaks
