TOMORROW, ORDINARY TIME CONTINUES

Tomorrow, after the joyful celebration of Pentecost Sunday, the Church returns to the rhythm of Ordinary Time beginning Monday, May 25, 2026.

The second season of Ordinary Time in the 2026 liturgical calendar runs until November 28, 2026, covering Weeks 8 to 34 before the beginning of Advent.

Though it is called โ€œOrdinary,โ€ this season is far from unimportant. The word comes from the Latin ordinalis, meaning โ€œnumbered,โ€ as the weeks are counted in order. During this time, the Church reflects on the public ministry of Christ โ€” His teachings, miracles, compassion, and call to discipleship.

After receiving the fire of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we are now sent forth into mission. Ordinary Time reminds us that holiness is lived not only during great feasts and celebrations, but also in the quiet, ordinary moments of daily life. In our prayers, sacrifices, acts of kindness, forgiveness, and faithfulness, Christ continues to work within us.

The liturgical color for Ordinary Time is green, symbolizing growth, hope, and spiritual renewal. As the Church journeys forward, may we continue growing in faith and bearing the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives.

May 24 โ€“ Feast of Pentecost
May 25 โ€“ Mary, Mother of the Church

On May 24, the Church celebrates the great Feast of Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and transformed them from fearful disciples into bold witnesses of Christ. This moment marks the birth of the Church, when the Spirit of God filled the Upper Room with fire, courage, and divine power, sending the Apostles forth to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. Pentecost reminds us that the Church is not merely a human institution but a living Body guided and sustained by the Holy Spirit in every age.

On May 25, we honor Mary, Mother of the Church. This beautiful title reminds us that Mary was present with the Apostles in the Upper Room at Pentecost, praying with them as they awaited the coming of the Holy Spirit. As the Mother of Jesus Christ, who is the Head of the Church, she is also recognized as the spiritual Mother of all believers. Her maternal care continues to guide the faithful, leading them closer to her Son and interceding for the Church in every generation.

These two celebrations are deeply connected. Pentecost reveals the power of the Holy Spirit, while the memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church, reminds us of the maternal presence of Mary who prays with and for the Church. Together, they show us that the Church is both Spirit-filled and motherlyโ€”strengthened by divine fire and nurtured by loving intercession.

As we move from Pentecost into this Marian celebration, we are invited to remain in prayer, just as the early disciples did, opening our hearts to the Holy Spirit and entrusting ourselves to the guidance of Mary. The Spirit gives us strength; Mary teaches us faithfulness.

Come, Holy Spirit.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ”ฅ
