The Mass for the Initiation of the Petrine Ministry of the Bishop of Rome, Pope Leo XIV will be celebrated live from the Vatican.

A new shepherd steps forward — chosen through prayer, called to serve.Let us pray for our Holy Father,
that he may lead with faith, wisdom, and love.

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, is the newly elected Pope, taking the papal name Leo XIV. His election on May 8, 2025, marks a historic moment as he becomes the first American to lead the Catholic Church.  

📖 Early Life and Formation

Cardinal Prevost entered the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977, making his solemn vows in 1981. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Villanova University in 1977 and a Master of Divinity from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago in 1982.  

🌍 Missionary Work in Peru

After his ordination, he served in the Territorial Prelature of Chulucanas, Peru, where he immersed himself in missionary work, learning the language and culture. His deep connection with the people led him to become a naturalized Peruvian citizen. He later served as the Bishop of Chiclayo from 2015 to 2023.  

🏛️ Roles in the Vatican

In 2023, Pope Francis appointed him as the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America. These roles placed him at the forefront of the Church’s leadership and governance.
