📢 'Dear friend, you are ‘light’ to express it, not to hide it. ‘Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bucket, but on a stand; and it gives light to all that are in the house,’ Jesus also said (Matthew 5:15). No one lights a candle and hides it under a bushel, right? It would defeat the entire purpose of light.' - Treasure Umoh

In this reflection, Treasure Umoh from Nigeria, a member of The Salvation Army’s International Children and Youth Advisory Group (ICYAG), explores what it truly means to be ‘light in the darkness’ and challenges us to live boldly and visibly for Christ. ➡️ https://alltheworld.salvationarmy.org/light-in-the-darkness/

This National Salvation Army Week, co-founder Catherine Booth’s words remind us that real change requires action.

For over 160 years, The Salvation Army has been committed to showing up, challenging need, and working toward a better future for our neighbors.

The mission has not changed.

The Salvation Army started in 1865 in London, when William and Catherine Booth refused to choose between preaching the Gospel and feeding the hungry. They wouldn't pick one. They wouldn't separate them. They believed faith and service were one thing, and they built a movement around that conviction.

The work crossed the Atlantic in 1880. It's been in this country ever since.

A lot has changed in 160 years. The buildings look different. The technology is different. The neighborhoods are different. The needs are different.

The mission hasn't budged.

Faith and service. One thing. Always.

Please be guided accordingly.

We are now on our 3rd of 4 Sundays in our Self-Denial Appeal. We continually encourage everyone to take part in this international movement of compassion and generosity—reaching out to those who are in need.

This Sunday, our focus is to Stand Firm.

📖 Matthew 7:24–25 (NIV)
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose and the winds blew

The Salvation Army is called to be more than a gathering place. We are called to be an “in and out” church, gathered in worship and sent out in mission.

“We don’t hunker down. We don’t try to protect what’s left. We move out into the world in Jesus’ name.”

As followers of Christ, may we continue to bring hope, compassion, and the message of Jesus into our communities and everyday lives.

We are now on our 2nd of 4 Sundays in our Self-Denial Appeal. Together, we continue to respond to this international movement—extending hope and help to those in need.

This Sunday, we are called to Be On Guard:
‘Learn to do right; seek justice.
Defend the oppressed.
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
plead the case of the widow.’ (Isaiah 1:17, NIV)

Let us stand firm in compassion, act in justice, and be vessels of God’s love in a world that needs it most.
