Knights of the Altar - Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Grace

Learn and Serve The Knights of the Altar is an organization of boys and men who
serve Our Blessed Lord at His altar.

It was organized in September,
1938, in response to many requests from priests, brothers and nuns who
felt the need of an organization that would aid them in solving the many
problems they encounter from time to time in directing an altar boy
society. These directors desired a central organization with rules and
regulations to which they could conform and which would also serve as a
clearing house for their many problems. In forming the Knights of the Altar, studies were made of
various local altar boy organizations. The successful and outstanding
features were noted and used as a basis for this national society. Every
feature was tried and tested and was found to be quite successful. Local
directors may, at their discretion change certain details to suit the
customs of their individual parishes. It is recommended, however, that
they adhere as closely as possible to the general structure. The Knights of the Altar (Ministry of Altar Servers) at SOLGP is a non-profit church organization consisting of young men, usually between the ages of 9-18 years old, who are called to serve God as Altar Servers in the Roman Catholic Church with the duties of defending the church, deepening the faith, and serving our Lord at the altar of his sacrifice at the mass. The ministry is directly affiliated to Knights of the Altar, the organization founded by Saint John Bosco.

"My Youth, will be the best shield for the Eucharist"

Today, we celebrate the feast of one of our Patron Saint, St. Tarcisius!

St. Tarcisius was a young Roman Christian who lived during the third century and served the early Church. While carrying the Eucharist to Christians imprisoned for their faith he was attacked by a group of pagan boys, curious on what he was holding He died protecting the Eucharist and is honored as a martyr and patron
saint of the altar servers.

Prayer
O God, You have graciously called me to serve You upon Your altar. Grant me the graces that I need to serve You faithfully and wholeheartedly. Grant too that while serving You, may I follow the example of St. Tarcisius, who died protecting the Eucharist, and walk the same path that led him to Heaven. St. Tarcisius, pray for me and for all servers. Amen.

Maisasabuhay natin ang aral ng kapistahang ito kapag buong-puso tayong nagsasabi ng "Oo" sa kalooban ng Diyos tulad ng ginawa ng Mahal na Ina, at kapag pinapanatili nating malinis at banal ang ating pamumuhay habang nakatuon ang ating mga puso sa ating tunay na tahanan sa langit.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." — John 15:13

Today, we observe the memorial of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish Franciscan friar and Martyr of Charity. Early in life, a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary inspired his religious vocation. Driven by a deep mission to bring souls to Christ, he founded the Militia Immaculatae and pioneered the use of mass media, establishing periodicals and radio broadcasts to spread the faith.

When World War II broke out, Father Kolbe chose courage over safety. Refusing to claim protection under his German ancestry, he sheltered thousands of refugees fleeing N**i persecution. Even after his arrest and imprisonment at Auschwitz as prisoner #16670, he faithfully continued his ministry, secretly administering the sacraments to fellow prisoners.

His ultimate test came when a prisoner's escape led to a retaliatory death sentence for ten men. Father Kolbe stepped forward to take the place of a man with a wife and children. In a place defined by despair and cruelty, this incredible act of self-sacrifice truly embodied the radical love of Christ.

Today, he is venerated as the patron saint of journalists, media communicators, and radio operators. May his life of devotion and courage inspire us to practice selfless love and kindness in our own daily lives.

The gospel for the 18th week in Ordinary time featured the miracle of the multiplication of bread and fish. It emphasized that generosity leaves a lasting impact on our neighbors. When Fr. Jeff was a child he was told that in the miracle of the bread and fish, everyone was able to eat because they have their own food. But he later realized that this is a protestant interpretation of what happened. But for us catholics, we really believed that what Jesus did was a miracle. A miracle fed all of the people surrounding Him that time.

Fr. Jeff, noted the word compassion as the key word of the gospel. It is the greatest miracle that God exemplified and He has continuously done. When we learn and do acts of compassion, we become a miracle to others. The word compassion means ‘To suffer with.’ It is different from the word ‘awa’ because compassion does not end from merely a feeling, it must involve action.

“𝗔𝗻𝗼 '𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶 𝘀𝗮 𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗶 𝗛𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗻? 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.”

Ancient theology often compares the word compassion to the womb. Because we know that a mother bearing a child suffers out of her love for her child. That is compassion, to suffer with. To be with. What will you choose between the two? Habag or awa?

- 𝘙𝘦𝘷. 𝘍𝘳. 𝘑𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘋𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘰, 𝘖𝘔𝘐

On the anticipated Sunday mass, the enthronement of the first class relic of St. Eugene De Mazenod the founder of the Missionary Oblates of Immaculate was held. With this, Fr. Jonathan stressed that a relic is not a lucky charm, or a magical item that will make us immortal. Instead it is a reminder of a child of God who exemplified love for Him. The relic of St. Eugene was not meant to be adored, because adoration is reserved and belongs to God alone.

“𝗔𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶 𝗻𝗴𝗮 𝗻𝗶 𝗘𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲.”

Eugene was a saint who experienced a somewhat chaotic world. He witnessed the French revolution and he came from a broken family. But one good friday, he looked upon Jesus nailed on the cross, and then he realized how much love God has for him. St. Eugene experienced at first hand a wealthy life, but he didn’t embrace it. He went out, he went on a journey not to boast how wealthy he is. But to spread the word of God.

The readings for the 18th Sunday in ordinary time emphasized how generous our God is. In the first reading, God invites us to approach Him. Especially those who are thirsty for peace, hope and mercy. Because our time must not be allotted to nurture a seed that will not give us a fruitful harvest. Fr. Jonathan emphasized that the world cannot satisfy our thirst or hunger. Because God is the only one that will nourish us.

“𝗔𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗼 𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗼 𝗮𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘄𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝘆𝗼𝘀.”

St. Eugene saw the face of God to those who are frail and submerged in poverty. He immersed himself and proclaimed the gospel. Fr. Jonathan reminds us that the enthronement of the relic of St. Eugene de Mazenod must ignite our love for God that will lead us to serve Him through the poor and the abandoned.

“𝗔𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗯𝗶 𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝘀𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗵𝗮𝘆? 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘆, 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗸𝘀𝗮𝗻. 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗼 '𝗱𝗶 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗹. 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗸𝗿𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗮 𝗸𝗮𝗽𝘄𝗮.”

The miracle of the bread and fish happened because someone willingly offered five pieces of bread and two pieces of fish. It is a reminder that a miracle is an act of love and sacrifice.

“𝗔𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻, 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗻𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗻𝗮𝗴𝘀𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗹.”

Sa ating paggunita ngayong araw sa Pista ni San Domingo de Guzman, ipinagdiriwang ng buong Simbahan ang buhay ng dakilang tagapagtatag ng 𝙊𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 (𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝘿𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙠𝙖𝙣𝙤). Napakahalaga ng kanyang naging ambag sa ating pananampalataya bilang ehemplo ng matatag na 𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙜𝙤𝙡 𝙨𝙖 𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙣 (𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙨) at 𝙥𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙞𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙨𝙮𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙣𝙖 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮𝙤.

Inilaan ni San Domingo ang kanyang buhay sa pamamagitan ng dalawang bagay: 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘬𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘱 𝘴𝘢 𝘋𝘪𝘺𝘰𝘴 𝘴𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘬𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘱 𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘰𝘭 𝘴𝘢 𝘋𝘪𝘺𝘰𝘴 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘭. Dahil sa kanyang malalim na pagmamahal sa Mahal na Birheng Maria, naging pangunahing kasangkapan din siya sa pagpapalaganap ng Banal na Rosaryo bilang sandata ng panalangin laban sa mga maling aral at pagsubok.

Naisasagawa natin ang kanyang itinuro kapag natutunan nating ipagtanggol ang katotohanan ng may pagmamahal, at kapag patuloy nating ginagawang gabay ang Banal na Rosaryo sa ating pang-araw-araw na pagninilay at pananalangin.

Sa ating paggunita kay 𝗦𝘁. 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘆 o kilala din bilang Curé d'Ars, pinaparangalan ng buong Simbahan ang dakilang Patron ng mga Pari. Ang kanyang pambihirang dedikasyon sa Sakramento ng Kumpisal at Eukaristiya sa nayon ng Ars ay patuloy na nagpapaalala sa atin ng walang hanggang awa at pagmamahal ng Diyos.

Si 𝗦𝘁. 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘆 ay naglingkod sa maliit at malayong nayon ng Ars sa Pransya.
