Grace for Today with Pastor RJ
Many people long for God’s blessings, yet hesitate when it comes to surrender. We ask for provision, peace, and favor—but often on our own terms. We want Christ as Savior, but not always as Lord.
The tension lies here: blessing flows from relationship, and true relationship with Christ is marked by submission.
Submission is not a popular word. It sounds like loss of control, limitation, or restriction.
But in the kingdom of God, submission is actually alignment. It is placing our will under the perfect will of Christ, trusting that His authority is not oppressive but life-giving. When Jesus calls us to follow Him, He is not merely inviting us to receive from Him—He is calling us to yield to Him.
In Luke 6:46, Jesus asks a piercing question: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” This reveals the heart of the issue. It is possible to confess Christ with our lips while resisting Him with our lives. We may pray for open doors but ignore His commands. We may seek His hand while avoiding His heart.
The blessings of God are not detached rewards we collect; they are the natural fruit of abiding in Him. When we submit to Christ’s lordship, we step into His order, His wisdom, and His purpose. Obedience positions us where His promises can unfold—not because we have earned them, but because we are walking in step with Him.
Consider the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17–22). He desired eternal life, but when Jesus asked him to surrender what he held most dear, he walked away. He wanted the blessing, but not the cost of submission. His story is a mirror many would rather not look into.
Submission to Christ means trusting Him even when His direction challenges our comfort, our plans, or our understanding. It means saying, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). This kind of surrender is not weakness—it is the pathway to transformation.
If we truly desire God’s blessings, we must first embrace His lordship. The greatest blessing is not what God gives, but that He reigns in us. When Christ is Lord, everything else finds its rightful place.
Reflection:
Am I seeking God’s blessings more than I am submitting to His authority? What area of my life is He asking me to surrender today?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have desired Your blessings without fully yielding to Your will. Teach me to trust Your authority and to walk in obedience. Be not only my Savior, but truly my Lord. Amen.
