TITLE: GOD'S POWER IN WEAKNESS
S.O.A.P. Method
Scripture:
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) - "But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."
Observation:
Apostle Paul, one of the most influential leaders in the early church, experienced great victories in spreading the gospel, but he also faced tremendous challenges. In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul mentions a “thorn in his flesh”—a mysterious, painful struggle that he carried with him. The Bible doesn’t specify exactly what this thorn was, but scholars believe it could have been a physical ailment, emotional burden, or a spiritual challenge. What’s important to understand is that this thorn caused Paul real difficulty and suffering.
Paul didn’t just accept this challenge at first. He prayed earnestly and asked God three times to remove it, expecting that God, in His power, would take it away. However, instead of taking away the problem, God gave Paul a different answer: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”.
This response might have been surprising to Paul—he was hoping for relief, but instead, God promised grace. Rather than removing the problem, God was teaching Paul that His grace would sustain him in the midst of the difficulty. Paul learned that his weaknesses weren’t something to be ashamed of, but rather opportunities for God’s power to shine through.
Application:
As young people, you may face situations that make you feel inadequate or weak—whether it’s pressure from school, struggles with friendships, challenges at home or even in our personal life.
It’s easy to feel like giving up when things don’t go the way you planned. But remember Paul’s story. When you’re facing difficulties, don’t just ask God to take them away—ask Him for the grace to endure, and trust that His power will be made perfect in your weakness.
When we admit that we need help and can’t do it all on our own, we open the door for God to step in and work. And when He does, His strength will carry us through in ways we never thought possible.
Four Takeaways To Remember:
✅️ GOD'S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT: No matter what we face, God’s grace is more than enough to sustain us. We may not always get the answers or outcomes we want, but God’s grace will give us the strength we need.
✅️ POWER IN WEAKNESS: Our natural instinct is to hide our weaknesses or feel discouraged by them, but God works powerfully through our weaknesses. When we admit that we need Him, His power fills the gap, and we are strengthened beyond our own abilities.
✅️ BOASTING IN DIFFICULTIES: Paul didn’t just accept his weaknesses—he boasted about them! Why? Because they gave him the opportunity to experience God’s power firsthand. When we face challenges, we can take heart in knowing that God is at work, even in our struggles.
✅️ RELIANCE ON GOD, NOT SELF: Difficult times remind us that we can’t do everything on our own. They force us to rely on God, and that’s exactly where He wants us—dependent on Him, trusting His strength rather than our own.
Prayer:
“Dear God, I admit that I don’t always feel strong enough to handle the challenges in my life. But I thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me, and Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. Help me to rely on You and not my own abilities, especially when I feel overwhelmed. Show Your power in my life, and let Your grace sustain me through every difficulty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
❤️‍🔥 This week, take a moment to pause and pray. Acknowledge your weakness before God and ask for His strength to carry you through. Make a journal about how God shows up in your difficult moments, and reflect on how His power is at work in your life. ❤️‍🔥
đź’ Remember, when we feel weak, it’s not a sign of defeat—it’s a chance for God to show His strength. LET HIS GRACE BE YOUR STRENGTH. đź’
