David was hiding in a cave, a king wanted him dead, and no one was coming to save him. And instead of crying, instead of giving up, he started singing to God.
“I will awaken the dawn.” Psalm 57:8
Most of us would read that and think David was being brave. But look at his words again. He didn’t say “I will wait for the dawn.” He said “I will AWAKEN the dawn.”
That means David believed that his praise, coming from the worst moment of his life, had the power to make the sun rise. His worship didn’t come after the miracle, his worship was what started it.
And that’s where we get it wrong. We wait for things to get better before we praise God. We tell Him we will worship when the pain stops, when the money comes, when the relationship heals. But David did the opposite, he praised God when everything was falling apart, and that’s when heaven moved.
Think about that. God did not respond to David’s crying. God responded to David’s praise.
So whatever we are going through right now, whatever cave we are sitting in, let’s open our mouths.
Because the God who turned a cave into a concert hall, the God who made the sun rise because one broken man decided to sing, that same God is listening to us right now. And He has never ignored a single voice that chose to praise Him in the dark.
