Reformation 500 - Philippines

Reformation 500 - Philippines In commemoration of the 500th year of the Reformation, The Neighborhood Church of Caloocan City desi The year 2017 marks the 500th year of the Reformation.

This movement restored the Word of God to its rightful place in the life and witness of the church. It all started on the 31st of October, 1517 when a young German Augustinian monk named Martin Luther publicly objected to the selling of indulgences. These were documents prepared by the church and bought by individuals either for themselves or on behalf of the dead that would release them from puni

shment due to their sins. Luther called for a public debate of the 95 theses (complaints) he had written. Instead, his 95 Theses spread across Germany as a call to reform, and the issue quickly became not about indulgences but the authority of the church. Events quickly accelerated. In 1521, he was called to an assembly at Worms, Germany, where he was asked to recant his views. It was here where Luther gave his most famous reply, “Unless I can be instructed and convinced with evidence from the Holy Scriptures or with open, clear, and distinct grounds of reasoning … then I cannot and will not recant, because it is neither safe nor wise to act against conscience. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me! Amen.”
Soon the winds of change spread throughout Europe. In commemoration of this momentous event, The Neighborhood Church of Caloocan City designed limited edition T-shirts. Proceeds will go toward TNC’s fund raising effort to obtain a more permanent place of worship.
