FROM COMMON TO UNCOMMON: A LIFE SURRENDERED TO GOD

Scripture: Acts 4:1–13
“God uses ordinary people who are surrendered to Him to accomplish extraordinary things.”
This powerful truth became the heart of Sunday’s message as Psa. Leslie Simbulante delivered an inspiring sermon entitled “The Common to Uncommon,” anchored on Acts 4:1–13.
The passage recounts the bold witness of Peter and John before the religious authorities. Though they were regarded as ordinary and unschooled men, their courage astonished those who heard them. What made the difference was unmistakable: they had been with Jesus.
Throughout the message, the congregation was reminded that God does not require extraordinary status, influence, or ability before He can use a person. Rather, He looks for ordinary people who are willing to surrender their lives to Him.
COMMON PEOPLE WITH AN UNCOMMON CALLING
Psa. Simbulante emphasized that throughout Scripture, God has a history of choosing ordinary people for extraordinary assignments.
People may consider themselves common because of their background, limitations, abilities, or circumstances, but God’s calling is not limited by human qualifications.
You may feel common, but your calling can be uncommon.
The message challenged believers not to measure God’s purpose according to what they currently possess. When God calls, He is able to equip and empower His people for the assignment He has entrusted to them.
COMMON PEOPLE WITH UNCOMMON BOLDNESS
The preaching also highlighted the remarkable courage demonstrated by Peter and John.
They were ordinary men standing before powerful authorities, yet they refused to remain silent about Jesus Christ.
Their boldness did not come merely from personality, education, position, or human confidence. Their courage came from their relationship with Christ and the work of God in their lives.
Psa. Simbulante reminded the congregation that God can give ordinary people uncommon boldness.
Our weaknesses, therefore, do not automatically disqualify us from being used by God. Instead, our limitations can become opportunities for His strength and power to be revealed.
Your weakness can become the place where God’s power is displayed.
COMMON THINGS WITH AN UNCOMMON PURPOSE
Another significant lesson from the message was the importance of surrender.
What may appear ordinary in human hands can accomplish something extraordinary when surrendered to God.
The congregation was encouraged not to underestimate the gifts, talents, resources, opportunities, experiences, and abilities God has already placed in their hands.
What is common in your hands can become uncommon when placed in God’s hands.
The question, therefore, is not simply, “What do I have?” but rather, “Am I willing to surrender what I have to God?”
A common talent can become a ministry.
A common opportunity can become a divine appointment.
A common testimony can bring hope to another person.
A common life, surrendered to God, can become an instrument for His greater purpose.
COMMON LIVES WITH UNCOMMON IMPACT
The message reached its defining point in Acts 4:13. The authorities were amazed by the courage of Peter and John and recognized something significant about them: they had been with Jesus.
This became the central challenge for every believer.
The extraordinary impact of Peter and John was not ultimately about who they were—it was about Who they had been with.
A life continually spent in the presence of Jesus begins to reflect His character, courage, compassion, and power.
People may see someone ordinary, but when that person walks closely with Christ, God can use that life to make an uncommon impact upon families, churches, communities, workplaces, and generations.
FROM ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARY
Sunday’s message left the congregation with a powerful reminder: God is still using ordinary people.
You do not need to be famous to be useful.
You do not need to have everything figured out before God can call you.
You do not need extraordinary resources before God can accomplish something through you.
What God desires is a heart that is available, surrendered, and willing to walk with Jesus.
The story of Peter and John reminds believers that the difference between a common life and an uncommon life is not simply talent, education, position, or influence.
It is the presence of Jesus in a surrendered life.
As the church moves into another week, the message continues to echo:
Be surrendered. Be available. Be bold. Stay close to Jesus.
Because when an ordinary person places an ordinary life into the hands of an extraordinary God, the common can become uncommon.
