In his homily, Fr. Rene reflected on the words of the German Jesuit theologian and one of the greatest thinkers of all time: βGod is the ground of being.β He explained that everything that exists is grounded in God, and when a person is truly rooted in Him, he or she becomes faithful to oneβs true self, attains fulfillment, and experiences genuine happiness. To be grounded in God is to be deeply rooted in Him, and this rootedness can only grow through prayer.
Fr. Rene reminded us that prayer is the attitude of a truly pious person. Piety is not merely about external devotion, but about deep immersion and communion with God. In prayer, we bring before Him our situation, our struggles, and our desires. Yet a prayerful person does not force himself or herself upon God. Rather, what God desires is our faithful response to what He asks of us. At the root of true piety is a life of prayerfulness.
