DIOCESE CREATES A NEW VICARIATE IN CALAMBA
During the Mass for the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the mother parish in Poblacion, Calamba, Bishop Marcelino Antonio Maralit, Jr. announced that the Vicariate of St. John the Baptist, which comprises the parishes within Calamba City, will be divided to give way to the establishment of a new vicariate.
According to Canon 374, ยง2 of the Code of Canon Law, a vicariate is established โto foster pastoral care by means of common action.โ It is headed by a vicar forane, a priest chosen from among the parish priests.
Prior to the division, the Vicariate of St. John the Baptist was the largest among the 13 vicariates in the diocese, comprising 11 parishes. In order to provide more effective pastoral care, it became necessary to divide the vicariate according to the geographical location of the parishes.
The Vicariate of St. John the Baptist will retain the following parishes:
* St. John the Baptist Parish
* Holy Trinity Parish (Pansol)
* San Vicente Ferrer Parish (Real)
* San Pedro Calungsod Parish (Villa de Calamba)
* St. Mary Magdalene Parish (Looc)
* Sts. Peter and Paul Parish (Aplaya)
Meanwhile, the newly established Vicariate of St. Joseph the Worker will comprise the following parishes:
* St. Joseph the Worker Parish (Canlubang)
* San Isidro Labrador Parish (Makiling)
* Our Lady of Fatima Parish (Lawa)
* Mary Help of Christians Parish (Mayapa)
* San Agustin Parish (Parian)
