Pastor Noriel Habana
Introduction
God holds our future. No one fully knows what tomorrow brings except Him alone. That is why we are called to trust Him completely. Without faith and trust in God, we will keep wandering in darkness, uncertain of where to go.
We all need Someone who can guide us through life. Praise God because Jesus continually leads us every day, every moment, and in every season of our lives.
๐ Matthew 14:22โ36
Verses 22โ23
Jesus cares about His people
Jesus sent the people home so they could rest after being blessed and ministered to. This shows that God is not only concerned about our spiritual needs but also our physical and emotional well-being.
Prayer was part of Jesusโ lifestyle
Jesus went up to the mountain to pray.
Prayer was not just a routine for Him
It was part of His ministry, relationship with the Father, and discipleship
Day and night, Jesus spent time in prayer. He made the presence of God His place of rest.
Insight:
True satisfaction and success are found in living a life connected to God.
Verse 24
The strong winds represent the pressures of the world
The contrary winds symbolize the struggles, temptations, and worldly influences that keep fighting against the direction God wants for our lives.
Just like the disciples, we are also in a boatโ
and Jesus is our Captain.
He knows where we should go, so we must entrust everything to Him.
The enemyโs goal is to bring fear and confusion
The devil only wants to:
Distract us
Scare us
Shake our faith
That is why the Bible describes him as a roaring lion. He makes noise to intimidate, but he only gains power when we allow fear to control us.
God already rescued us from our old life
The Lord already lifted us out of the โmiry clay.โ
We should no longer return to the ways of the world or allow the waves of sin to pull us back.
Sometimes repeated struggles in our lives reveal areas we still need to surrender and overcome through God.
๐ โFor me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.โ
Even in silence, God is working
Even during seasons when we feel like nothing is happening, God is still moving.
He hears the cries of our hearts
He sees our pain
He knows our battles
No matter how strong the storms are, the help of the Lord always comes at the right time.
Sometimes we fail to recognize God in our storms
In the middle of trials and pain, God comes near to help us, but sometimes fear and doubt blind us from recognizing Him.
Doubts cloud our discernment
Fear makes us question Godโs presence
Prayer must be centered on Jesus
Whenever we pray, we pray in Jesusโ name because we know who we are calling upon.
Even if God already heard your prayers, there will still be spiritual battles and delays. But remember:
Godโs timing is perfect
God always answers
Sometimes His answer is different from what we expected because His plan is greater than ours
Storms reveal the condition of our trust
Every situation teaches us something.
Sometimes questions come before trust:
โWhy is this happening?โ
โWhere is God?โ
There are moments when doubt blinds us, and our wrong decisions lead us further away from Him.
But even then, God still calls us back.
Verses 28โ31
Keep your eyes on Jesus
Peter was able to walk on water while he focused on Jesus.
But the moment he focused on the wind and waves, he began to sink.
Insight:
What we focus on will determine whether we walk in faith or drown in fear.
Be careful what you pray for
Sometimes we pray for bigger things without realizing the process and responsibility that come with them.
Faith sounds easy when spoken, but difficult when tested.
Still, God remains good all the timeโnot only in comfortable seasons, but even in painful ones.
Pain can make us question God
Sometimes trauma, fear, and sorrow make us challenge Godโs presence.
There are even moments when people blame Him for their pain.
But many circumstances are allowed by God to:
Strengthen us
Correct us
Teach us obedience
Just like parents discipline their children because they love them.
Later in life, we realize that correction protected us from destruction.
God still cares even when we fail
Peter lost focus because he looked at the strong winds instead of Jesus.
The same thing happens to us:
We become distracted
We lose focus
We allow fear to overcome faith
But even when Peter sank, Jesus immediately reached out His hand.
Insight:
Godโs grace is greater than our failures.
Verses 32โ33
Repentance brings peace
When Peter returned to Jesus and entered the boat, the storm calmed down.
When we repent and return to God, we experience:
Peace
Joy
Security
Things that the world can never truly give.
We all make mistakes and fall short, but when we turn back to God, He extends His hand to save us.
Verses 34โ36
Godโs Word must be applied, not only heard
Every preaching carries a message from God.
Do not allow His Word to simply pass through your ears.
Let it:
Enter your heart
Transform your mind
Be seen in your actions
Discipleship should be visible in our lives
Faith should not stay inside the church.
It should be seen in:
Our character
Our choices
Our lifestyle
That is why the Bible says, โYou will know them by their fruits.โ
We represent Jesus in todayโs world
As Christians, we are representatives of Christ.
People should see Jesus through:
The way we speak
The way we treat others
The way we live
Because everything we do reflects who we belong to.
People need the Lord
This world is hurting, broken, and searching for hope.
That is why we are called to:
Be a Jesus person
Bring healing
Bring hope
Lead people closer to God
Final Thought
Walking with Jesus does not mean life will have no storms.
It means that even in the middle of the storm, you are never walking alone.
