Jerusalem had been placed in a unique position, but instead of reflecting Godโ€™s ways, the people turned away from Him. Ezekiel 5 shows the seriousness of repeatedly rejecting God and the consequences that follow.

Ezekiel is given an unusual assignment: he must physically act out the coming siege of Jerusalem. His actions become a visual message to people who have become numb to words.

Sometimes God uses something dramatic because people have stopped paying attention. Ezekiel 4 closes September by reminding us that God's Word isn't meant to remain something we simply read. It calls for a response.

God tells Ezekiel that before he can speak God's message to others, he needs to receive it himself. He isn't called merely to repeat words. God's message has to reach his own heart first.

Ezekiel is living among the exiles in Babylon when he receives a breathtaking vision of God's glory. His circumstances suggest that God has abandoned His people but this vision reveals something completely different. God's presence is not limited to Jerusalem. Even in exile, God is there.

Think of someone who feels far from God right now. Pray for them by name and send them a message letting them know you're thinking of them.

Jerusalem is still devastated, and there is no easy resolution. Yet the people ask God to turn them back to Him and renew them. Lamentations doesn't end by pretending everything is okay. It ends with a request: โ€œGod, bring us back.โ€

Think of one area of your life that needs a fresh start. Write it down and pray, โ€œGod, turn me back to You and renew me.โ€
