THE GOD OF THE HOPELESS
Beholding Jesus Series

Mark 5:25-29 New King James Version
25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the [a]affliction.

How did the woman with the issue of blood find hope in the midst of her hopelessness? What do you think was the secret to her faith?

The secret to her faith can be found in these five words: "When she heard about Jesus."

We may not see or hear Jesus in person as those people during His time did. But by simply hearing about Jesus, we can receive the same faith and breakthrough the woman did.

Whatever she had heard about Jesus caused her to receive.

The Bible does not tell us exactly what she heard about Jesus, but I strongly believe that she must have heard story after story of how Jesus healed the sick everywhere He went, how good and gracious He was even to the sinners or the down-and-out who came to Him.

She must have heard that in spite of the fact that you are unclean, and there is sin your life, you can receive healing.

What she heard about Jesus produced in her a positive, confident expectation of good.

What are you hearing about Jesus? The more you hear about His goodness and grace, the more faith will arise in you to receive your miracle.

THE GOD OVER THE STORM
Beholding Jesus Series

Mark 4:35-39 New King James Version
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side." 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?"
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, lal be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

What do we share in common with the disciples that empowers us to face our own 'storms'?

1. We Have God's Word

Mark 4:35 New King James Version
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”

Psalm 138:2 New King James Version
2 I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

God considers His promises as trustworthy as His own character.

When Jesus commanded, 'Let us cross over to the other side,' His instruction carried the weight of a divine guarantee. It carried a promise of completion.

2. We Have God's Presence
Mark 4:37-38 New King James Version
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

Isaiah 41:10 New King James Version
10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

No matter what you are facing today, Isaiah 41:10 is a powerful reminder that you are never alone.

3. We Have God's Authority
Mark 4:39-40 New King James Version
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace,[a] be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How[b] is it that you have no faith?”

The reason Jesus could calm the storm was that He was the only one in the boat who was at peace.

John 14:27 New King James Version
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

His peace on the inside of you will cause every storm in your life to subside!

Luke 10:19 New King James Version
19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

The power and authority our Lord Jesus gave them to operate in is the power and authority we have as believers today!

Between the time that you start acting on God’s word and the time that you end up experiencing God’s promise, there may be a storm in the midst of that, but you are still going to the other side because you have God's Word, God's presence, and God's authority.

The God of the Overflow

John 6:5-13 New King James Version
5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?" 6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
7 Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little."
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, 9 "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?"
10 Then Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them lalto the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.
12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost." 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.

23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you.[a] Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again. - 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NLT

Every time we partake of the bread, we are declaring that Jesus’ health and divine life flows in our mortal bodies.

Every time we partake of the cup, we are declaring that we are forgiven and have been made righteous.

Philip’s problem is the immensity or magnitude of the need.

8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, 9 "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?"

Andrew’s problem is the smallness of the supply.

Philip looked at the people and saw the vastness of the need. Andrew looked at what they have and saw the smallness of the supply.
NEITHER OF THEM WAS LOOKING AT JESUS!

Jesus didn't look at the immensity or magnitude of the need; He didn't look at the littleness or smallness of the supply. Jesus looked up and thanked God for the little, and the little became much!

When Jesus gave thanks He was showing us how we can receive a miracle.

12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost." 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.

STOP LOOKING AT THE MAGNITUDE OF THE PROBLEM, AND THE SMALLNESS OF THE SUPPLY, AND JUST LOOK TO JESUS.

We are to remember Jesus as we partake of the Holy Communion.
Jesus wanted us conscious of how His body was broken for our wholeness, and His blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.

And whenever we partake in this consciousness, we “proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes"
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 New King James Version
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

Every partaking acts as a proclamation to the enemy that Jesus has already conquered death and that victory is ours.

The Power of the Holy Communion

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 New King James Version
Institution of the Lord’s Supper
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, [a]“Take, eat; this is My body which is [b]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.................

Every partaking acts as a proclamation to the enemy that Jesus has already conquered death and that victory is ours.
