Perhaps one of the greatest misunderstandings about God’s grace is the idea that because we are forgiven, sin no longer matters.
But Scripture teaches the very opposite.
Grace does not lower God’s standard of holiness. Grace transforms the sinner.
Before Christ, we were slaves to sin. We followed its desires because that was our nature. But when we placed our faith in Jesus Christ, God did more than forgive our sins. He gave us a new life, a new heart, and the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live for His glory.
That is why biblical grace never gives us permission to continue in sin. Instead, it teaches us to turn away from it. The same grace that saves us is the grace that sanctifies us.
We do not pursue holiness to earn God’s acceptance. We pursue holiness because, through Christ, we have already been accepted. Obedience is never the cause of our salvation; it is the evidence that God’s grace is at work within us.
If your understanding of grace makes you comfortable with sin, you have misunderstood grace. But if God’s grace is leading you to love Christ more, hate sin more, and desire holiness more, then you are beginning to understand grace as God intended.
Christ did not die merely to forgive sinners.
He died to transform them.
📖 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.” (Titus 2:11–12)
