Mae was known as the most capable officer in the student council. She spoke with sharpness, organized every event perfectly, and everyone agreed she had the natural gift to lead and inspire.
But Mae was always in a rush. She saw only tasks to complete, deadlines to beat, and who could do what best. She rarely slowed down to see the people behind the work, or how her own words and actions landed on them.
Then one night, something strange shifted. She woke up living in someone elseโs life walking in the shoes of the quietest girl in her batch.
From this new place, she saw herself clearly for the very first time. She saw how she brushed people off midโsentence. How she called small efforts โa waste of time.โ How she chased praise and perfect results without ever asking how anyone was really doing. It was like looking into a mirror that showed her not just her face, but all the things she had been too busy to notice about herself.
There she met Kuya Miguel, the school janitor who spent his free time reading stories to street children outside the gate.
He had no loud voice. No big title. No impressive talents to show off.
But every child felt safe and seen with him.
โYou have a gift to speak and lead,โ he told her gently. โBut gifts are only light when love carries them. Pursue love first then every word you say will truly matter.โ
When Mae finally returned to her own life, nothing around her had changed. Only her eyes had.
She no longer just saw schedules and reports. She saw the classmate sitting alone. The one too tired to speak. The one too shy to ask for help. She still used her gifts to lead and organize, but now she led with care first.
We have seen people with great talents, loud voices, and impressive leadership skills. We have watched them achieve wonderful things and earn everyoneโs praise.
But I think many of us overlook a different kind of leader the one who stops, who listens, who sees what everyone else misses.
A leader who asks, โHow are you?โ
Who values the person more than the task.
Who believes that true power isnโt in how well you shine to others, it is in how well you see the ones no one else notices.
Perhaps that is the most beautiful use of our gifts: not to stand above everyone else, but to walk beside them.
Sometimes the greatest leader isnโt the one who never makes mistakes.
It is the one who, after seeing the truth, chooses to lead with love, always.
