True Value in Times of Uncertainty
Scripture: Matthew 20:28
"Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
We are living through days marked by rising costs and unstable markets—fuel prices climb steadily, budgets feel tighter, and uncertainty lingers over daily decisions. It is easy in such times to measure everything by cost and value, to view resources merely as commodities, and to feel weighed down by what seems beyond our control.
Yet Jesus offers us a different definition of worth. In Matthew 20:28, He reminds us that true greatness and true value are not found in accumulation or authority, but in service and sacrifice. While gasoline powers our vehicles and keeps our daily lives moving, Jesus offers a power and purpose that no economic shift can exhaust. He gave Himself as a "ransom for many"—a costly, selfless act that secured freedom and hope for all.
When the price of basic needs rises, let it remind us not just of scarcity, but of abundance—the endless, unchanging love God pours out for us. We can choose to serve others even amid our own struggles: offering a ride, sharing resources, speaking words of encouragement. In doing so, we reflect the heart of Christ, turning moments of difficulty into opportunities to demonstrate the greatest value of all—love in action.
Closing Prayer
Gracious and loving Father,
In these days of rising costs and uncertain markets, we admit that we often feel anxious and burdened. Remind us daily of the truth found in Your Word—that our greatest treasure is not found in what we possess, but in what You have done for us through Jesus Christ.
Help us to trust in Your provision rather than our own resources, and to follow the example of Your Son who came to serve and to give Himself for us. In Jesus' Holy Name we pray, Amen.
