GOOD FRIDAY | VENERATION OF THE CROSS

The church falls into silence.
No music. No words. Only the weight of this sacred day.

One by one, the faithful of Macabalan Parish – Iglesia Filipina Independiente step forward—not out of routine, but out of love, sorrow, and gratitude. Before us stands the Cross… not just wood, but the place where heaven touched earth, where love chose to suffer, and where mercy embraced the world.

This is not just a symbol.
This is where He carried our sins.
This is where He was broken… so we could be made whole.

As we kneel, as we bow, as we kiss the Cross, we bring everything with us—our pain, our regrets, our silent prayers, the battles no one else sees. At its foot, nothing is hidden. Everything is surrendered.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” — 1 Peter 2:24

In this moment, we are not alone.
We are one parish. One family. One body in Christ—held by a love that never gave up on us.

So we stay.
We kneel.
We remember.

⛪ And in the silence of this sacred day, the Cross speaks—
of a love that never left,
a mercy that never failed,
and a sacrifice that changed everything… forever.

LITURGICAL COLOR:

With one heart and one spirit, Macabalan Parish – Iglesia Filipina Independiente joyfully proclaims the triumph of life over death—Christ is risen!

From the silence of the tomb, God has revealed His eternal promise. The stone has been rolled away, and with it, our fears are conquered, our faith renewed, and our hope restored. As a parish community, we are called to live as witnesses of this glorious victory, reflecting His love in our service and unity.

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” — Matthew 28:6

LITURGICAL COLOR:
• WHITE/GOLD: recalls the brightness of the day and symbolizes joy, purity, holiness, innocence, and triumph.

🌅 Salubong sa Linggo ng Pagkabuhay

From the silence of the tomb to the joy of the dawn, Easter Sunday proclaims a truth the world often forgets—life always rises, hope always returns, and love always wins.

As we witnessed the Salubong, where sorrow meets joy and darkness gives way to light, we are reminded that resurrection is not only a moment to celebrate—but a life we are called to live.

In today’s time, where hearts grow weary, truth is often distorted, and faith is tested, the message of Easter becomes more urgent:
👉 Rise above indifference.
👉 Rise above hatred and division.
👉 Rise above the comfort of being “just enough.”

Christ did not rise so we could remain unchanged. He rose so we, too, may rise.

Are we living as people of the Resurrection?
Or are we still buried in fear, doubt, and complacency?

May this Easter challenge us—not only to celebrate—but to transform.
To become witnesses of hope in a world longing for light.

In the stillness of Black Saturday, the IFI Macabalan Black Saturday Vigil gathered as one community—waiting, praying, and hoping. From the darkness, a new light was born as the blessing of the new fire ignited our faith anew.

The waters were blessed, reminding us of life, renewal, and grace. And as we renewed our baptismal vows, we did not simply recall a promise—we chose once more to live it.

This sacred night speaks powerfully to our world today. In times overshadowed by uncertainty, division, and silence, Black Saturday reminds us that God works even in the waiting. That in the quiet, transformation begins. That from darkness, light will always rise.

But this is also a challenge.

Are we merely witnesses of the light, or are we bearers of it?

Do we remember our baptism only in ritual, or do we live it in action—through justice, compassion, and truth?

As the new fire burns and the blessed waters flow, may we not remain the same. Let this night move us—to rise from indifference, to stand firm in faith, and to become instruments of Christ’s living hope in a world that longs for light.

From darkness to light, from death to life—let us live what we believe.

This Good Friday, IFI Macabalan Parish came together in a profound expression of faith, reflecting on the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ.

More than a yearly observance, this sacred moment became an invitation—to pause, to listen, and to encounter Christ in a deeper way. His words from the cross continue to speak into our lives today, urging us to choose compassion over judgment, faith over doubt, and self-giving love over selfishness.

May this remembrance move us to live with greater purpose—serving others, standing firm in faith, and embodying the love that Christ showed on the cross.

As we go forth, may we not only remember His words, but allow them to shape who we are each day.

The IFI Macabalan has conducted the solemn remembrance of the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ, gathering the faithful in a moment of silence, reverence, and prayer.

In this sacred encounter, we listened once more to the final words of our Lord—not merely as a tradition to observe, but as a living message meant to awaken our hearts. Each word speaks deeply: calling us to forgive beyond our wounds, to trust beyond our fears, and to love even when it demands sacrifice.

Yet in today’s world, where it is easy to become indifferent, to “magpakaaron-ingnon,” or to choose comfort over conviction, Christ’s words challenge us. Do we truly live what we proclaim? Or do we leave these words behind once the moment has passed?

This remembrance invites us to something greater than listening—it calls us to transformation. For the Cross is not only to be remembered during Holy Week, but to be carried in our daily lives through acts of mercy, humility, and genuine faith.
As we depart from this solemn gathering, may we ask ourselves: Are we merely hearers of His Word, or are we truly living it?

✨ Come and encounter Christ at the Altar of Repose. Not just to see—but to stay.

At the Altar of Repose in the Parish of St. Peter the Apostle and Fisherman, Barangay Macabalan, City of Cagayan de Oro, we are invited into a moment of sacred silence—where Christ waits in love, even in the face of suffering and abandonment.

This is more than a tradition. It is a living call for each of us. In a world filled with noise, distractions, and superficial faith, the Lord challenges us to be real—to be present, to be faithful, and to be true.

Are we truly good stewards of God’s grace? Or are we simply going through the motions? Maundy Thursday reminds us that Christ Himself chose humility, service, and obedience. Now, He calls us to do the same.

🙏 As you come before the Altar of Repose, do not just pass by—stay with Him. Watch with Him. Pray with Him.

Let this be our challenge today: to live out a faith that is not for show, but from the heart. To become faithful stewards of God in our daily lives—not pretentious, but authentic.

MAUNDY THURSDAY

In a world that moves too fast, Maundy Thursday calls us to pause and remember what truly matters—love expressed through humble service.

Today, as the IFI Macabalan celebrates Maundy Thursday, we are reminded of Christ who knelt to wash the feet of His disciples, showing that greatness is found not in power, but in compassion.

In an age marked by division, indifference, and struggle, His example remains deeply relevant: to serve one another, to forgive sincerely, and to love without condition.

Maundy Thursday is not only a remembrance of the Last Supper—it is a living invitation. An invitation to become bread broken for others, to be present for those in need, and to carry Christ’s love into our families and communities.

May this sacred day renew in us a spirit of humility and selfless love, that even in our small ways, we may reflect the heart of Christ in today’s world.

Holy Wednesday

On this day, 1 April 2026, the faithful of IFI Macabalan gathered beneath for the sacred Tinieblas. One by one, the candles were veiled in darkness, echoing the sorrow of heaven and the grief of the Church as our Lord enters His Passion. In the silence, we keep watch; in the shadows, we remember—until the Light that no darkness can overcome shall rise again.
